The sport hunting of a mayoral candidate - legal but immoral

On the science website, we have published more than one article condemning sport hunting. Even if the actions of Shmuel Boxer, a candidate for mayor of Nes Ziona, are legal in the countries where he committed them, today there are things that were once common that are now illegitimate, such as the practice of atonement

The science website has been warning for years about the phenomenon of sport hunting of wild animals in Africa. So far we have written about American celebrities or just rich people who hunt endangered animals for their pleasure, and here this week it was discovered that Israelis are also involved in the problematic practice. Shmuel Boxer, a candidate for mayor of Nes Ziona, a city and mother in Israel, which also has one of the world's leading scientific centers.

I saw how the person who wants to be mayor of Israel went on a killing spree of wild animals. The act itself is legal since the killing was carried out on a farm that raises wild animals with the aim that they will be animal targets, but is it also justified or perhaps as the practice of atonement by corrupting chickens has ceased to be legitimate in our country.

Over the years news is repeatedly published about "heroes" who manage to kill wild animals, this for a considerable fee, a large part of which is directed to conservation and protection activities for reserves and animals and others who do this in places other than designated farms, such as the lion killers in Zimbabwe.

They tell about President Theodore Roosevelt whoHe returned from a hunting trip in East Africa with a ship full of skins, heads, stuffed animals, tusks and other hunting spoils of more than 11 thousand animals. Roosevelt is the president who is considered one of the pioneers in the establishment of reserves in the USA. It turns out that then, as today, there are those who distinguish between preserving nature in their home with the need to preserve the environment in general. In contrast, not long ago former US Vice President Dick Cheney "succeeded" in shooting his friend while trying to hunt a bird in Texas.

We all remember you Cecil who was killed by an American dentist who returned home victorious. Shortly after killing Cecil Another lion was killed In the name of the need to raise money for nature conservation, isn't it?

There are several countries in Africa where you can hunt wild animals for a hefty fee. The hunter is allowed in defined areas and there are restrictions on the age, sex and size of the hunted animal and of course also on the number of individuals that are allowed to accompany them, when usually the permits are given to regulate the population of explosive species, i.e. species whose number is greater than the carrying capacity of the area where they live.

Let us remind you that we also have an organized and supervised legal hunter, and in addition to the legal hunter, special permits are given to kill animals in cases of population explosion, disease or risk to humans, but in Africa, as in Africa in many countries, the superiors can be bribed and there are rich "heroes" who, in exchange for an indeterminate fee, kill Undiagnosed wild animals.

This is not the case in South Africa, where there is close supervision and usually it is not possible to "smear" the superiors, but nevertheless the more acceptable place for the rich to satisfy their lust for murder is South Africa, as there are farms where wild animals are raised that can be "hunted" for A considerable payment (tens of thousands of dollars and more), I wrote "hunt" in quotation marks because the "hero" has a powerful rifle in his hands. He is led to a hiding place from where he can aim and shoot without risk and if he doesn't hit an expert is next to him to finish the killing.

One of the main reasons for justifying a commercial hunter is the need or experience To supply the market with the hunter's products while doing minimal harm to nature. The discussion and debate about the economic and moral justice of legal commercial hunting continues and will not be resolved here, As I wrote before There is room for debate about the authority and our right to determine who will be hunted, but when licenses are given for predatory hunting the picture changes. However, on the official data, the hunter must be added for the purpose of subsistence by natives who have lived in the area for many generations and from understanding the area they hunt in a sustainable manner.

Since the Israeli "hero" hunts on a breeding farm, when discussing the preservation of nature there is reason to ask Is raising endangered animals on farms to provide the required products justified because it prevents the killing of wild animals? According to all the data over the years, it turns out that the answer is negative.

The discussions on the preservation of the natural environment are also included The "lovers" of the animals who oppose any killing. I wrote animal lovers in quotation marks because there is a huge difference and a long distance between loving animals and understanding the need to protect wild animals and the natural environment, since almost all over the world the natural environment is already disturbed and damaged and therefore it is necessary to manage it scientifically, management that also includes the removal of invasive species or the dilution of species erupting.

However, despite the legality, there is no justification for the criminal activity that takes place on farms for breeding wild animals, where those with a lust for murder who have enough money in their pockets can realize their lust.

In my opinion, there are two problems with the candidate's activity. One, the fact that there are places where the killing of wild animals for a fee is promoted, is infuriating and it is appropriate that the countries where the abominable possibilities exist change the laws. And secondly, when the person who is burning with the lust for murder has enough money to realize this lust legally, it is appropriate to check who the man is. Because whoever does not see the immorality of killing wild animals is not fit to hold public office.

לפני

This is what Boxer's initial reaction looked like, which heated up the spirits more on Facebook:

"These photos from Africa were part of an organized and accepted trip in the tourism industry there, a trip that I made as a private person. This trip is not at all relevant to my experience, my qualifications and my candidacy for mayor."

"And here is the whole difference on one leg: people of serious action with real experience - against small people who have been swimming in the mud of dirty politics for over 20 years, with heavy suspicions of oppressing small businesses through fictitious class action lawsuits." The public will see and judge. And only the good will win.

after

After the riots, Boxer removed the photos from his Facebook page and wrote:

The time for forgiveness has come.

"Dear residents of Ness Ziona, in the last two days, my photos from a private trip about two years ago in South Africa, a trip that also included participation in legal hunting of wild animals as is customary in Africa, were widely published."

First, I would like to apologize. I would like to apologize to any of you whose feelings and principles were hurt by these photos. God forbid I had any such intention.

As we know, the practice of hunting is a controversial issue all over the world and even within the environmental protection organizations. There were also people in my family who opposed it.

Good friends, Ness Ziona is dear to my heart and important to me. And you as residents more than anything. The debate surrounding the issue has degenerated into violence and threats that I have not seen before in Ness Ziona. The time has come to stop before it is too late.

I believe that my sincere apology ends the dance of the devils, and returns the important discussions surrounding the future of Ness Ziona to the center of the agenda, in a respectful and dignified discussion of professional matters as I have done since I entered the race.

  1. stupidity!
Why introduce atonements here? Beautiful and reasoned writing, so why give 30 percent of your country's citizens a reason not to listen to what you say?
Only a deep loathing of religion could lead to such a senseless act.

A lot of secular people have a tremendous anger towards the religious, for many reasons. By the word "secular" I mean a person like me, who does not have any belief that is not natural (religion, homeopathy, chiropractic, naturopathy, aliens, spirits and so on).

You have many reasons. One is, of course, the refusal of many ultra-Orthodox to serve in the army. This is an unforgivable act in my view.
Another reason is the discrimination of women. Third reason - harming the disabled. Fourth reason - hatred of LGBT people. Fifth reason - cruelty to animals. There are many other reasons (hatred of science and knowledge for example)

Of course - I'm not even implying that all believers are negative! But there is a real problem here. At least I have a problem, I don't want to speak for others. In particular, I have a problem if the issue of religion is "above the law" in many ways. It is forbidden to talk about things, it is forbidden to argue. A secular person has no morals... and so on.

    What are you surprised by?

What is so important about kafforas with chickens?
I really don't understand. It is not a religious obligation or even such an ancient custom. Many rabbis have already recommended converting him by giving charity. which is undoubtedly superior from a religious and educational point of view (from the point of view of giving charity)
In addition, this custom is used as a red sheet and a fertile blanket for the defamation of religion (even if quite hypocritically)
From an educational point of view, the statement "we give money to charity, and thus act with mercy towards others and ask that the Lord of the world have mercy on us" is much better than the statement "we will kill another living being and thus atone for our sins"
(It can be argued that ceremonies with a similar message were held in the temple. I will not go into the answer here to answer this question and will only refer to the Rambam's words regarding sacrifices)

In any case, everything I wrote above does not take away from the fact that there is a lot of hypocrisy in religious slanders in general and Assaf in particular regarding atonements. But that's in a separate response

You are the one who started the sector attack.

In the past, those who kept the army were the members of the kibbutzim and moshavim. After that, until a few years ago, yeshiva members were the spearhead of the IDF. Unfortunately, there has been a radicalization of the "level of religiosity" in the army, and not only in the army. I am not talking at all about the ultra-Orthodox who are shameless and afraid to serve, and are happy that others die for them.

Regarding taxes - ultra-Orthodox budgets are a cancer in Israel. The result is that taxation in Israel is too high, even after taking into account the security budget and the corruption of the government.

Raphael - I have no problem with a religious person who serves in the army, works, respects women, disabled people and LGBT people equally, and does not think of himself as better than a secular person.

You are the one who started attacking personally. You look down on those who are different from you, and think you are better than everyone. You are unable to put your faith to the test, and unable to understand that you might be wrong.

  5. Miracles, you confuse the brain as usual. Have you checked how many Jewish soldiers believe in the Creator and are not interested in changing Judaism? Have you checked how many taxes Jews pay who believe in the Creator of the world and are not interested in changing Judaism?

  6. Raphael
This marginalized minority supports and protects the majority with its life...

In any case - don't you think it is better to attack the bad things in Judaism rather than the good things?

  7. Asaf Kfar, what is illegitimate is that there is a negligible minority who want to make all of Judaism illegitimate. They start with the custom of atonement, continue to slaughter, move on to circumcision, etc. We passed through the Egyptians, the Babylonians, the Greeks and the Romans, and with the help of God we will pass through you too.

  8. The fact that you decided not to use a chicken for the ritual of atonement does not make the act illegitimate.
The practice of atonement is widespread today in almost the same numbers as before, and legitimate (of course not in the eyes of those who are important in their own eyes) no less than in the past even if you don't like it that much.

  9. Let's start with a joke: one person is trying to be accepted into a neo-Nazi organization. The leader of the organization tells him: "To be accepted you have to kill 3 Jews and one dog"
The man asks: "Why do you need a dog?"
The Nao Nazi answers him: "You have been accepted."

Reading this article reminded me of that joke. A whole article in which the entire discussion is whether the hunter harms the ecology or not. And whether they are endangered animals or not.
It's like asking "why a dog?"
Damn the bandit shot the animal! A large creature that felt pain just like a human does. A person who gets shot multiple times will feel the exact same pain

  10. 1. It's fun to eat meat
    2. Hunting animals saves them from a cruel death at the hands of predatory animals like hyenas.

  11. Everything is fine and dandy, I still don't understand why hunting on a farm for this purpose is immoral and slaughtering a cow, raising a calf in a barn, castrating piglets and what not..., moral and acceptable (or maybe actually acceptable and therefore moral)

    post Scriptum
I don't understand the need to hunt wild animals for the experience.

  12. It is not a problem to hunt and kill animals.
We all die eventually. Some quickly and some in severe dying agony (even close medical supervision does not always help).
The big problem is actually another problem:
All over the world and in Israel, animals are raised for food under conditions of great suffering.
Like for example reduction of the place of the corrals, terrible overcrowding and more.
It's a shame that the efforts and struggle of those with a conscience are not focused on this issue instead
Disperse on issues like "don't eat meat", "don't hunt".
For example statements like "don't eat meat" only create a situation of ridiculousness and resistance from most people.

  13. to Nostradamus,
Usually to any "new" commenter who would write this
My (automatic) response was "it is appropriate to precede the understanding of the text before the response",
But as a veteran commenter, I appreciate that you read and understand therefore instead of the Rem
I suggest that you read again and if necessary also read the lists in the links
And maybe then you'll realize that your reaction is "bursting into an open door"...

  14. do you eat asaf are you getting dressed do you live at home Do you use drugs for a while? If so, then you also harm and cause the killing of animals indirectly or directly if you eat meat and wear leather products or sometimes use medicines. And despite everything, I am also against the hunter
