Tomorrow (Monday) the climate conference opens in Durban, South Africa

The choice of Africa may turn the spotlight on the many climatic disasters that are affecting large parts of the continent, and accelerate the attempt to address the reduction of emissions, if the climate deniers do not succeed this time in their attempt to hijack the conference

This week the Durban COP17/CMP7 conference, the 17th meeting of the UN countries within the framework of the Climate Change Convention (UNFCCC) and the 7th meeting of the participants in the Kyoto Convention (CMP7) is convening in South Africa

The media is bombarded with long headlines depending on the importance of the activity that can follow decisions. As before the Copenhagen conference, so also now someone "nice" hacked into the email of the climate research department of the "University of East Anglia" and published about 5000 documents plus comments aimed at discrediting the researchers, just like then so also this time the suspicion falls on the "climate skeptics" who, despite the thinning of their ranks. If so, it should be noted that the emails published this time are also from before 2009.

The climate deniers who call themselves the launderer climate skeptics continue to try to thwart art and projects that would moderate the emission of pollutants. Hopefully the attempts will fail.

Tomorrow (28/11) a conference with many participants will be convened (again) in which they will try to reach conclusions and decisions that will be the basis for the mitigation of human effects on the global climate systems and will allow the renewal, improvement and strengthening of the Kyoto Convention.
The island of the conference will gather in Durban in South Africa. The whole of Africa is at the mercy of the vicissitudes of the weather. Rainy seasons are delayed in arriving and rains that used to fall regularly and regularly arrive in "biblical" intensities and cause floods, other parts of the continent suffer from periods of drought that extend over years and the result... persistent drought and hunger among millions of people, we will add to this the oil pollution mainly in Nigeria, the shrinking of lakes and the deforestation and we will get a recipe for an ongoing environmental disaster.

Many of the leaders of the African countries recognize the danger and alongside a desperate call for global action are doing what they can to mitigate the environmental damage. Programs and ventures that allow (small) farmers to improve the food yield in their fields by the correct use of irrigation systems and fertilization and by improving the yield of traditional crops, the production of charcoal from waste to replace the trees that are cut down and above all the millions of (local) trees that were planted and are being planted in recent years in an attempt to return to the continent some of the forests that were cut down .

Africa is not the only continent that is suffering. Floods that are increasing in intensity in Southeast Asia are exacting a heavy toll in human lives and damage to the economy of countries that, even without the damage, are in a dire situation. The countries around the Himalayan range are already feeling the results of the melting of the glaciers, the melting that causes seasonal floods on the one hand and lack of water on the other.

In North Asia, millions of square kilometers of permafrost (permafrost) are being thawed, the ground is emitting greenhouse gases that continue to exist, in the North Pole, the shipping lane is gradually opening up, the ice is melting and the mammals are dying. In South America, the Peruvian fishermen suffer from the depletion of the fish and in Brazil every year forests are cut down in an area that has grown to the size of the State of Israel.

In North America, extreme climate events are multiplying and the researchers "promise" that their intensity and frequency will increase, in Europe a study was published according to which: the air pollution that causes damage to the health of the residents also causes losses of tens of billions of euros every year,

Butterflies that were previously known from Africa appear in England. It's beautiful, but when you add to that early ripening of fruits, a strawberry that should ripen in the spring of Mars in November? Due to consecutive years of dryness and high temperatures, roads, bridges, railways and buildings are cracking and falling apart.

With us...? At the previous conference in Copenhagen, our president promised to lower pollutant emissions in Israel by 20%, meanwhile the emissions are increasing.

Every day new threats are discovered to the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, threats that originate from the period and the attitude of "Nalbishech Shlomat concrete and cement" threats worn out and regulations were supposed to neutralize them, but apparently those who do not understand the need to protect two square kilometers of a unique dune (Samer), do not feel itself is bound by regulations for the benefit of the environment and the public and is not subject to laws that can be circumvented.
A year after the fire in Carmel, "fire accelerants" are often grown in the burned area, the entire area is greened with pine seedlings, this despite the call of everyone who understands to prevent the formation of a "pine desert", so maybe on the next planting holiday, instead of going out and planting, thousands of families will go up to the Carmel and engage in uprooting pine trees?
The Dead Sea (Death) that is not chosen is dying. There was, maybe there is still a public protest, a reference to the environmental agenda.... was missing. Will there be any news from the Durban conference? We can only hope!

It would be appropriate that instead of spreading empty megalomaniacal promises, the public and its leaders would wake up and stop the ongoing failure, act for the sake of the environment. Because again: the time has come that instead of controlling the environment for the sake of the human population, there will be control of the human population for the sake of the environment.

  1. Why is there no article about the important discovery at the LHC, about symmetry breaking in the D masses...
