This spectacular arrangement of three Saturnian moons: Dione, Tethys and Pandora - next to the rings represents a sampling of the variety of worlds that exist in the Saturnian system.
A 330 km wide impact crater is visible near the lower right edge of Dioni (left). The crater, known as Ithaca Chezzema was photographed during the approach of the Cassini spacecraft on September 24, 2005. In the same image you can also see Tethys (middle). The tiny moon Pandora puts on a beautiful display as well, revealing a hint of its surface. Tethys is in the far part of the rings in this image, Dioni and Pandora are much closer to Cassini.
The diameter of Dunia is 1,126 km, of Tethys 1,071 km and Pandora - only 84 km. The image was taken in visible light in the Hachot region using Cassini's narrow-angle camera on September 22, 2005, at a distance of about 1.2 million km from Saturn. The scale of the image is 5 km for Dune and Pandora, and 9 km for Tethys.
