The president of the Technion, Professor Peretz Lavi, announced today to the 224 members of the institution's cortorion (board of trustees) about three more huge donations totaling $60 million intended for the recruitment of new faculty members and for the computer science faculty laboratories ($30 million from the Taub Foundation), for medical research (20 million dollars from the Rapaport Foundation) and for other purposes (XNUMX million dollars from the Technion applicants' delegation in the USA, which recently visited Israel).
Professor Lavi excitedly noted the remarkable participation in the annual session of the Courtorion, which had not been seen in Israel for many years. He reported on the new study program in oil and gas exploration that will open at the Technion in the coming year, in view of the discovery of the gas fields off the coast of Israel. "There are not enough experts in these fields in Israel and the Technion once again came to the rescue, in cooperation with Haifa University and government ministries, to meet a national need," he said.
The president of the Technion updated the members of the Cortorium on the details of the tender in which the Technion is participating, together with leading universities from the USA and around the world - to establish an engineering-scientific research center in New York, at the personal invitation of the mayor, Michael Bloomberg. "The Technion is expanding its international activities", he emphasized. "The International School of Engineering doubled itself in one year and in 2010 we signed cooperation agreements with 36 universities around the world (recently with five leading universities in China) in addition to the 80 existing agreements, and this year a record number of post-doctoral students was registered on campus."

At the end of his remarks, the president of the Technion reported on the new research centers in the field of energy, computer engineering (the largest center in Israel) and autonomous systems. "It's just a shame that the fields of engineering and computer science, whose contribution to the country's economy is enormous, do not receive the support they deserve in the order of national priorities," said Professor Lavie. He emphasized that in 2010 the Technion recruited 26 new faculty members, a record number since 2001. "We make available to the new faculty members residences in the new affordable village, a generous intake basket for sophisticated laboratories and a Technion mentor who accompanies them at the beginning of their new path. Restoring minds is at the top of the Technion's priority list."

  1. Why a curtsey? And precisely now the events are starting to mark the 100th anniversary of the language war at the Technion, an important milestone for the Hebrew language!
Apart from that, I would be delighted with the Technion's students, lecturers and scientists for the appropriate donations.

  2. Really warms the heart, thank you from all of us and the future Technion students
