The third spacewalk ended - the replacement cooling pump was installed

NASA says that the pump was successfully installed. As I recall, it was an unplanned spacewalk when, on the first spacewalk, the pair of astronauts were unable to disconnect the broken pump

Flight engineers Doug Wilcock and Tracy Caldwell Dyson completed their third spacewalk today (Monday) for the purpose of installing the ammonia tank in the cooling system of the International Space Station.

The two returned to the station at 13:40 p.m. EST (20:40 p.m. Israel time) on Monday after being assisted by Shannon Walker who moved the station's robotic arm for them.

The replacement pump, which weighs about 350 kg, was pulled from its storage platform by Wilcock with the help of the robotic arm. The module was successfully installed on the station's S1 component after Wilcock attached four straps and Caldwell Dyson attached five electrical connectors.

The ground controllers have already checked and confirmed that the new pump is working and has started receiving electrical power. After checking pressures and liquid cable connections, the new pump was filled with ammonia.

As you may remember, NASA originally intended to finish the project in two spacewalks, but problems that occurred last Saturday meant that the broken pump was not completely disconnected and the two had to go out again and disconnect and only today did they complete the operation of connecting the new pump.

Wilcock and Caldwell-Dyson have been outside the station on the current spacewalk for seven hours and twenty minutes. On Wednesday they were outside the station for seven hours and 26 minutes. Last Saturday - August 7, in the first spacewalk for the purpose of the repair, they broke a spacewalk record - eight hours and 3 minutes.

  1. My father, what are the names of the astronauts who performed the space walk

  2. I don't understand NASA, why don't they learn from the human body?!
Next time, I would suggest that NASA build pumps with a self-repairing mechanism, and only in the case of a serious breakdown, then the other systems in the space station will come to the rescue to help repair the malfunction.
