First place for a researcher from Tel Aviv University on behalf of the European Scientific Council

Dr. Yulia Kempe, faculty member of the School of Computer Sciences in the Sackler Faculty of Exact Sciences, was ranked first out of over 9000 other researchers by the European Scientific Council

Dr. Yulia Kempe, faculty member of the School of Computer Science in the Sackler Faculty of Exact Sciences, was ranked first out of over 9000 other researchers by the European Scientific Council. Dr. Kempe was awarded the perfect score (10) for her personal excellence and the high quality of the research proposal she submitted on the subject - "The power of quantum computers".

Other researchers of the university have also been successful in their ranking in the program.
Dr. Oded Regev, a member of the faculty of the School of Computer Science as well, won the highest score - 9.76 and was placed in the overall ranking in 56th place with his research on "Lattices in Computer Science". Prof. Nissan Itzhaki, from the School of Physics and Astronomy at the Sackler Faculty of Exact Sciences, is in 207th place with a score of 8.9 with his research on "Time Dependent String Theories and Cosmology" and Dr. Miriam Shafer Mosenzon, from the Faculty of Humanities at Antin - the Department of the History of the Middle East and Africa, was placed in 436th place with a score of 7.9 with her research - "European Medicine in the Middle East: Middle Eastern Medicines in Europe".

The European Scientific Council (ERC) was established about two and a half years ago by the European Union through the European Commission. This council operates the IDEAS program to promote basic research in Europe.
The program finances research in all scientific disciplines that deal with basic academic research, with its main criterion for approving research funding being scientific excellence.
This criterion is divided into two parts - the excellence of the submitting researcher and his potential to be a world-class leader in the field, and the excellence of the proposed research.

In 2007, the research proposals of only the young researchers were submitted, and in fact, in these days, the acceptance of the veteran researchers was opened.
In the first round for young researchers, over 9,000 pre-proposals were submitted and 560 were selected for full proposals. The ranking of the researchers is from the 560 researchers who advanced to the second stage. At this stage, the full proposal was also examined when the candidates had to stand an interview before special examiners on behalf of the Union.
After all this, the researchers were ranked according to the degree of their success in the personal interview and the proposal, and as said, Dr. Kempe won the highest score.

It's very strange to me that I study at this faculty, and the big things happen right next door.

  3. Well done, big thumbs up to Julia Kempe who deserves a big picture of her!
Congratulations on the win and good luck in the personal interviews!
If I'm not mistaken, this is the department of exact sciences at Tel Aviv University! (Where I want to place my imaginary statue!) So, in general, this win is good preparation!

  4. It is worth publishing in all the newspapers in Israel - at least like the victory of Shahar Far in tennis...
    Bravo!!
