The second spacewalk is over

The spacewalkers prepared the P6 corridor component for repositioning

The spacewalkers leave the Quest space station at the start of the mission, Sunday at noon

The second spacewalk on mission STS-120 has ended. Astronauts Scott Przynski and Daniel Tani prepared the P6 component in preparation for its transfer to a new location during the spacewalk that ended at 18:05 Israel time.

Parzynski and Tani started their work in the area where component P6 joins component P1. After disconnecting the cables and screws securing the two components, Captains Wilson and Doug Wilcock continued from the station, activating the robotic arm to move P6 from its position. They placed the component, which is mainly used as a base for solar collectors, in an intermediate position before transferring it today (Monday) to the shuttle's robotic arm.

Tani also performed a number of tests he was asked to perform by the mission managers. He examined the condition of a railing and a facility used to transport equipment and personnel, but found no sharp edges in any of the facilities. While examining the bearing used to rotate the solar arrays, he found an area where the metal had peeled off. The bearing recently suffered from excessive friction, and the engineers are analyzing the possible reasons for this.

The mission lasted 6 hours and 33 minutes. The next spacewalk is scheduled for Tuesday. This time it will be Parzynski and Wilcock who will help connect the P6 component to the robotic arm for transfer to its new place on the P6 component.
