"The government will provide a good education, and the parents should send their children to learn what is necessary for them to become useful citizens and cultured people"

This is what Nobel laureate Prof. Dan Shechtman, who serves as Acting Chairman of the Wolf Foundation, said at the ceremony announcing the winners last week.

After the Minister of Education Gideon Sa'ar, who also serves as chairman of the Wolf Foundation, spoke about the achievements of the education system, according to him, in recent years, during the announcement of the winners of the Wolf Prizes who will come to receive the award, it was the turn of the vice chairman of the Wolf Foundation, Nobel laureate Dan Shechtman make his comments.

"In addition to the actions that the ministry did, there is an umbrella that floats above it - the Compulsory Education Law. The Compulsory Education Law should be a contract between the government and the citizens that says two things: We, the government, will provide education from the age of 3 to 18. The other side of the agreement should be that every parent sends their children to learn what One needs to study in order to become a useful citizen and a person who is knowledgeable in many areas and has enough background to later acquire a higher education and acquire a profession. This should be an agreement between the state and all citizens and from all citizens to the state." Prof. Shechtman said.
It's just a shame that the chairman of the fund, Minister of Education Gideon Sa'ar, does not implement this proposal. The minister left immediately after his speech for events related to the elections.

Regarding the Wolf Prize, Prof. Shechtman added: "We would like scientists to be role models for the youth, so there is a very important educational aspect to the Wolf Prize. It is important that the young people know who these people are and what they did."

"The Wolf Prize is a very prestigious prize. Today I called the winners to inform them that they had won the prize and the responses were like the lady from the lottery factory called them and it was about the great scientists. They knew it was May, they were really busy. We are supposed to maintain this prestige of the Wolf Prize, we have to To keep the great name. It's a job that my predecessors in the committees who worked to establish the Wolf Prize and bring it to this place. It's not bought in one name In awards - one - the way the award is conducted - is done with academic excellence. The second thing - if the academic community says that the person was worthy, this is what we would like to see happen at all costs, this is the most important thing that awards Wolf constitutes."

  1. Sorry, typo, thanks for your attention.
He intended to maintain the existing situation only to strengthen it in content, so that everyone would learn what is needed in modern society. For some reason when I say this they say I hate religious people, when Shechtman says it it's fine.

  2. Free education from age 3 to age 12?
Was there a mistake in the news? After all, today there is already free education from the age of 3 to the age of 18.
And yes, it would have been better if the parents had devoted more time and care to the education of their children and preparing them for a life of creativity and financial independence.

  3. It angered me that the MLA refused for years to grant a university permit to another university
And I was angered by the politicization that the government did. There are better research institutes in other colleges like HIT.
In the end, I'm happy that Ariel is a university, but it's unfortunate that the road will be difficult for future colleges.
