What do scientists do when they get up in the morning? How are scientific discoveries revealed? How are patents and advanced technologies born? The Davidson Institute for Science Education, the educational arm of the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot, and other science and education institutions, open their doors to the general public and offer answers to these questions - and many more - in an evening of diverse, intelligent and entertaining activities for the whole family. Entry and participation in all activities are free of charge.

The "Scientists' Night" events, sponsored by the European Union, will take place in research and higher education institutions and science museums across the country on Thursday, September 22, from 17:00 p.m. to 22:00 p.m.

The Davidson Institute for Science Education, which brings together the educational activities of the Weizmann Institute of Science, invites the public to take part in a long and varied series of activities, which will take place on the institute's campus and in the surrounding cities:

• Scientists and research students from the Weizmann Institute of Science will meet with the public and discuss various topics from the front of science: Is there a danger of an asteroid hitting the Earth? What exactly are superconductors, and how are they related to quantum physics? And is nuclear fusion the answer to the energy crisis? All these and more, in 9 "Science Coffee" meetings - conversations over a cup of coffee and at eye level, which will take place in coffee shops, Pis clusters and educational institutions from Ashkelon to Tel Aviv (see full details below).

• Scientific workshops and activities for the whole family will be held in the Klor science garden, a unique science museum operating under the dome of the sky. Come tour the garden's facilities and perform experiments in "Eco-Spira" - the unique ecological complex in the Science Garden. Recommended for ages 5 and up.

• Guided tours will be held in research laboratories and showrooms throughout the campus. Come see "Foucault's Pendulum" which proves that the Earth does rotate, watch 12D proteins in the molecular theater, find out how a particle accelerator works, and tour the home of the first president and his wife, Dr. Chaim Vera Weizman. Recommended for ages XNUMX and up.

• In the halls of the institute, there will be a variety of shows with a scientific flavor: a glassblowing demonstration, chemical demonstrations "spectacular demonstrations in chemistry - soft matter: letters from noses and CDs to tissue engineering" with Prof. Jacob Klein, and a host of demonstrations showing the magic of science.
