The Knesset's Science Committee: to allocate money to the Science Museum in Jerusalem

The Science and Technology Committee of the Knesset held a discussion yesterday on the serious condition of the Science Museum in Jerusalem, and at the end of it the committee announced that it is demanding from the Minister of Finance, Binyamin Netanyahu, to allocate funds for the continued operation of the museum

The chairman of the committee, MK Mali Polishuk-Bloch (Change), said that the museum falls between the chairs because the responsibility for its budgets lies with the Ministry of Education and Culture, the Jerusalem Municipality and the Jerusalem Foundation. According to her, "from many bodies that are supposed to support it, it remains an orphan, and it may be closed soon. It is not possible for a scientific education institution whose entire role is to bring the youth and families closer to the field of science to receive a public budget of 13% of its budget and the rest should be raised through donations. The lack of understanding and recognition of the importance of scientific education will lead the country to destruction," she warned.

MKs Avraham Shochat and Yitzhak Herzog (Labour), who are among the friends of the museum, also said that every way must be found to prevent the museum from closing.
