A NASA subcontractor is suspected of cutting cables on a computer destined for the space station

The tampering was discovered after it was also carried out on a backup computer by the employee's employers, whose name was not provided

An employee of a NASA subcontractor cut cables on a laptop computer about to board the space shuttle Endeavor to the International Space Station. The subcontractor, whose name was not mentioned by NASA, contacted NASA a week and a half ago, when the company's managers discovered that a compatible computer was also carried. NASA Shuttle Project Manager Bill Gerstenmeier, NASA would have discovered this on its own during the pre-launch computer testing process. According to him, this injury did not cause safety problems.

Gerstenmeyer declined to speculate on the employee's motive. He also did not say when the sabotage occurred, but said it did not take place in Florida and had nothing to do with the ongoing strike by the machinists union at the Kennedy Space Center. NASA hopes to fix the computer in the time left until the August 7 launch. It is designed to be installed within the pressure gauge data collection system on a large external support beam.

  1. To Avi Bilovski why did they postpone the launch to August 4 according to the NASA website

Because of the forecasted weather for tomorrow, they were afraid that they would not have enough fuel. I didn't think of devoting such a thing a news in itself. I will update on Friday the evening of the launch.

  2. To Abi Bilovsky just don't delete my questions when will the Phoenix spacecraft take off to Mars on what day thanks

The launch is scheduled for Friday, August 3
