Many believe that the State of Israel is not doing enough to maintain contact with Israeli scientists, researchers and research students staying abroad. The Israeli National Academy of Sciences decided to work to increase this relationship and preserve it. In a personal letter from the president of the academy for young researchers and doctoral students, Prof. Menachem Yaari explains that the intention of the academy is to bring the words of young Israeli researchers abroad to the attention of the competent authorities in Israel and to do its best to assist them in the unique issues that concern them.

In order to carry out this task, the National Academy creates a mechanism that will allow communication and communication. As a first step, the registry of Israeli researchers and earners abroad was built and goes live today.

In the accompanying letter to the registry, the Academy requests the cooperation of each and every one, and this while taking utmost care to preserve the privacy of the registrants.

It is widely believed that there are several thousand Israeli doctoral and post-doctoral students abroad and that in the last decade the proportion of Israeli researchers who do not return to the Israeli higher education system has increased. One of the main reasons lies in the reduction of standards and the lack of the ability of the academic system in Israel to absorb new young scientists.

The academy estimates that hundreds of Israeli academics staying abroad will return to the registry in the coming weeks. The president of the academy, Prof. Menachem Yaari, a member of the Shohat committee, said that the data received could also serve the national sub-committee that he heads.
The Academy intends to periodically publish the comprehensive findings that will be received from the registry.
