Professor Peter Hillman from the Hebrew University passed away on Thursday evening and was 84 years old at the time of his death. Prof. Hillman was among the first to bring science closer to the general public and make science accessible to the public in a popular way.

Professor Peter Hillman, born in South Africa (1928), immigrated to Israel in 1960 after completing doctoral studies in nuclear physics at Harvard University and working in leading laboratories in the world in his field of expertise. In 1964 he was appointed to head the nuclear physics department at the Weizmann Institute of Science in Rehovot. In 1967 he made a scientific turn and turned to a new field of specialization - neurobiology and brain research and was appointed a professor at the Institute of Life Sciences of the Hebrew University in Jerusalem until his retirement in 1998.

In 1980, Professor Hillman came up with the idea of ​​establishing a science museum in Jerusalem and founded the "Ein Roa - Science Workshop" at the Hebrew University, which operated at the university for about ten years. When the museum was established in 1992, he headed it voluntarily until his retirement in 1995.
