Prestigious British award for IBM's "Big Green" project

Every year the Cnet network gives awards to technology companies and businesses for outstanding achievements and ventures in various categories and this year a green computing category was added

IBM's green computing project, Project Big Green, won the "Green Information Systems Project of the Year" award, awarded for the first time by the Cnet network in Great Britain.

The awarding ceremony was held in London and brought together the senior executives of the computing industry, prominent businessmen and the professional media.

The Cnet network annually awards technology companies and businesses for outstanding achievements and ventures in various categories.
This year, a new category of the "Green Information Systems Project of the Year" award was added to the list of awards, which is designed to bring to light the growing awareness of environmental problems - and the central place that the computer industry must fill in dealing with these problems.

IBM's "Big Green" project combines research and development efforts, covering the entire life cycle of information systems: the project covers the design stages of products and production processes, designed to reduce the emission of pollutants into the environment in the production processes of new chips and computers, and focuses especially on reducing electricity consumption and heat emissions of computer systems.

Thus, for example, consolidating computer servers into an environment of small blade computers and improving the utilization of such computers reduce the consumption of electric current and the emission of heat in data processing centers, which requires an investment in air conditioning. More correct planning of systems and adherence to ongoing compatibility extend the life of these systems and reduce the amount of waste - while at the same time IBM also offers scrapping and disposal services for systems that have ended their lives, in an environmentally friendly format.

As you may recall, with the announcement of the "Big Green" computing project, IBM also announced that it would invest a billion dollars a year, in all areas of its activity, in order to significantly improve the energy consumption efficiency of computer systems and other activities for the sake of environmental protection.
