A future without plastic in the beauty industry

L'Oreal Israel has chosen the outstanding students who will represent Israel in L'Oreal's international competition for marketing innovation - Brandstorm which this year dealt with the challenge of sustainability - building a future without plastic in the beauty industry

About 60 students from Israel from 3 academic institutions (Tel Aviv University, the Hebrew and Interdisciplinary University of Herzliya) participated this year in the international competition of L'Oreal concern for marketing innovation - BRANDSTORM and join 40,000 students who participated in the competition all over the world. The theme of this year's competition dealt with sustainability:  BUILD A PLASTIC-LESS FUTURE IN THE BEAUTY INDUSTRY (Building a plastic-free future in the beauty industry), In collaboration Consumer products division at L'Oréal.

18 outstanding students advanced to the local final stage, and last week (19.5.20) the final competition was held, when the winning team from the Kohler Faculty of Management at Tel Aviv University proposed a revolutionary and innovative solution - shampoo in the form of compressed powder cylinders that can be shredded using a multipurpose device. This solution dramatically reduces the use of water, the need to transport, store and transport water and eliminates the use of plastic shampoo and conditioner bottles.

The international business game of L'Oreal concern - Brandstorm is one of the largest competitions in the world intended for students and has been held for 27 years, with the participation of about 65 countries, including Israel. In last year's global finals, about 10,000 business innovation ideas were collected from the students. In yesterday's final, the students presented their innovative solutions to the challenge that was set before them in front of the panel of judges that included Eli answered, CEO L'Oreal Israel; Ilan Nakash, director of the consumer products division; My heart is Anglo-Cass,  VP of human resources; Daniela Prosky-Shion Vice President of Corporate Communications and Sustainability, Hila Hatkevich Director of Marketing and Maya Givon, Co-founder and Director of Sustainability at THE NATURAL STEP Israel organization.

The winners in Israel of the competition for 2020: Shahar Sashon, Ariel Segal and Nimrod Sharaga, bachelor's degree students in management from the Kohler Faculty of Management at Tel Aviv University - who presented a revolutionary solution: ELVIVE VIRIDI - shampoo in the form of compressed powder cylinders, which can be shredded using a dedicated reusable device. The winning team, led by Dr. Irit Nitzan, a researcher in the field of marketing and Nurit Hod, will represent Israel in the international final competition that will be held online this year in June, and will compete against students from leading universities in the world.

According to Eli Shagiv, CEO of L'Oreal Israel: "This global competition gives outstanding students practical experience and real dealing with existing challenges in the competitive business world, as well as a rare opportunity for the winners to join Station F in Paris, L'Oréal's global innovation incubator. I am proud of the creative and innovative ideas presented to us by the Israeli students and I wish them success in L'Oreal's international competition."

The competition is a unique platform that encourages students to think and business creativity outside the box. According to Dr. Irit Nitzan, the leader of the winning team, from the Kohler Faculty of Management at Tel University spring: "I see great importance in our contribution to innovation in the field of sustainability. The solution presented by the students dramatically changes the consumption of plastic in the world of cosmetics and is a significant business opportunity for L'Oreal. The winning students will represent Israel this June in the international final competition that will be held online this year, and will compete against hundreds of students from universities all over the world. The group that wins the global competition will be given the right to integrate into L'Oréal STATIONF's innovation incubator in Paris for 3 months fully funded by the company, during which the winning idea will undergo a comprehensive feasibility test with the aim of launching a pilot. In addition, they will join L'Oreal's international forum meeting One young World Summit, where they will be exposed to the biggest challenges in the field of sustainability.
