Although the rate of cigarette smoking among American teenagers is lower than ever, more and more of them are smoking weed and fewer than ever believe that it is harmful to their health. Data published in December 2012, as part of the "Monitoring Tomorrow" project of the US National Institute on Drug Abuse, show that only 44.1% of 1973th grade students believe that regular smoking of marijuana is harmful, the lowest rate since 2012. This figure may explain why a third of high school seniors Hashish was tried in 15 and one in XNUMX teenagers smokes hashish every day.

It is possible that the reason for the change in the position of the youth stems from the growing acceptance of the use of marijuana for medical purposes. Since 1996, 18 states in the US, and the District of Columbia, where the capital Washington is located, have approved by law the purchase of marijuana with a doctor's prescription for adults. The states of Washington and Colorado were in November 2012 the first states in the US where it is legal to smoke marijuana over the age of 21. "This change in the perception of risk may well be a result of the widespread social acceptance of the use of medical marijuana," says Lloyd Johnston of the University of Michigan who directed the Monitoring Tomorrow project .

However, marijuana is more dangerous for teenagers than it is for adults. In August 2012, researchers from Duke University and other institutions published the results of a 25-year study that found that heavy use of hash among teenagers can cause irreversible brain damage. In subjects who were diagnosed as addicted to marijuana in their youth and adulthood, an average drop of 8 points in the IQ between the ages of 13 and 38 was found. The result remained the same even after the study editors corrected the results and included drug and other drug addiction, schizophrenia and educational problems. In contrast, the IQ of those who abstain from smoking marijuana, increased slightly. Moreover, stopping the habit in old age did not restore IQ.

How much marijuana is too much? "It's hard to know," says one of the study's leaders, clinical psychologist Madeline Mayer from Duke University. There is no accurate way to measure marijuana consumption because joints are usually uneven and their strength varies from joint to joint. But it is clear that adolescent minds are particularly sensitive and vulnerable to the effects of marijuana, and therefore the youth would be wise to avoid its consumption - and this may also preserve their wisdom over time.

  1. Dvir,
I think it is important to tell the truth. And as soon as everyone (or most) thinks that cannabis is harmless - then you have to come and tell the truth.
Cannabis can indeed be harmful in huge amounts to children under the age of 15 (according to the consensus opinion).

I agree with you, that this article also sins against the truth, as it does not state all the facts (not even of this particular study). She does not say that we have not found a long-term effect on people over the age of 15 who use cannabis. And she also does not compare cannabis to other drugs (such as caffeine and alcohol). If you were to compare, we would see that the substances in cannabis are much less dangerous than the other substances that are legal in our culture...

    post Scriptum.
This site did publish positive studies on cannabis. I know one-

  3. This is already the fourth article I see here on the site that opposes marijuana...

Why don't you post reviews about the enormous potential that the plant has in curing diseases, and preventing them. Including seizures and including physiological phenomena that no medicine has been able to treat to this day!! And that's what you're dealing with??????

pure shame! In my opinion, there is something here beyond normal coverage.. and if it turns out that you are cooperating with a certain organization, then shame on you!!

  4. Stop confusing your brain!!! Anything in excess, most of the reviews will be harmful and not beneficial, like one break is fine and five beers feel like a rag.. it's still legal because everyone cuts a coupon for marijuana, what coupon will they cut?!? And there is conclusive proof that marijuana works completely as an effective pain reliever. You understand what a simple plant can do. Against the background of the intense media campaign that the IDF has been conducting in recent weeks against Hezbollah, it seems that Hassan Nasrallah's organization is preparing a propaganda response. Ahead of the "World Jerusalem Day" that the Shiite terrorist organization will celebrate tomorrow (Friday) like every year, its men hung a large sign in front of the border with Israel with the inscription in Arabic and Hebrew: "We are coming".
The pharmaceutical industry?!!? There are other idiots doing "research" on this?!?

"And I really don't have an opinion on these issues - neither the marijuana issue nor the fluoride issue."
So why do you write your irrelevant opinion? Are you looking for attention?

You didn't stop there, you continued:
"But, when I am referred to some interesting article, I start to get an opinion …….."

So you derive your opinions from articles from refs……. Oh well... No wonder your opinions are changing.
    :)

  6. Shay Yakneam
The studies you refer to are a bit rubbish. The amounts of fluoride described there are hundreds of percent above the maximum fluoridation level in the West. The article itself says that most of the research is not of a high standard - so I don't think it's right to draw any other conclusion from your article than that someone is trying to sell something……. 🙂

And I really have no opinion on these issues - neither the marijuana issue nor the fluoride issue. But, when I am directed to some article from Efan, I start to get an opinion ……..

  7. Not that I use drugs but it's all politics.
So marijuana is dangerous because it lowers the IQ in teenagers, but with the fluoridation of the drinking water, which studies have also shown lowers the IQ in teenagers - they fill their mouths with water

  8. Maafan research... it's really not a random sample. The subjects were probably busy smoking and not studying, and therefore the drop in IQ score. In addition, on average, those who smoke are from a weaker section of the population... In short, there is a situation where the difference is only 8 points, this is because smoking improves IQ!

  9. And for those who didn't understand. According to the studies, although they tried very hard, they were unable to prove that the substance causes irreversible damage to boys over the age of 15

  10. Chen T, not that ignorant... they all have the substances THC and CBD...

In any case, it's a shame that this little summary doesn't give more accurate data than the studies, in fact there is a kind of sin for research here..

The studies showed that children under the age of 15! They are the ones who are damaged.
And even then, huge quantities are needed!! According to what is written here, it is simply forbidden to use it because it causes irreversible damage.

Coffee also causes irreversible damage if you use it so much...

  11. The author does not distinguish between hashish and marijuana and confuses them all the time during the article.
It is a great ignorance to create an equality between hashish, marijuana and medical marijuana.
