In Stockholm, Sweden, Nobel Prizes are distributed today to ten winners, and another winner in absentia. The winners are in physics: David Gross, David Pulitzer and Frank Wizcheck, in chemistry: Avraham Hershko, Aharon Chechenover (both from the Technion) and Irving Rose, in medicine Richard Axel and Linda Buck, and in economics Edward Prescott and Finn Kindland. The Austrian writer Alfreda Yelenk did not come to Stockholm due to what she calls the disease of social fear - SOCIAL PHOBIA and even for her Nobel speech she sent a pre-recorded video tape.

The ceremony will open at 16:30 local time (17:30 Israel time) with the playing of the Swedish national anthem and a piece by Mozart, the winners will enter the hall in a solemn and well-timed manner. Afterwards, the winners of the various awards will be presented, including pieces of classical music and opera performed by the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra and soloist Susanna Andersson.
This morning a rehearsal was held in which the winners practiced receiving the award with their left hand, from the king while shaking their right hand with the king's right hand, as well as a code of three bows - to the king, to the other dignitaries on the stage and to the audience. Due to Prof. Irwin Rose's illness, who has difficulty walking and uses a walking stick, Prof. Hershko will accompany him at his request. Prof. Rose asked Prof. Hershko to assist him instead of his personal assistant and Hershko willingly agreed.
Then, starting at 18:30 p.m., the traditional dinner will begin with the participation of 1,300 people, including members of the families of the winners, senior officials of the academic institutions they are members of, as well as all members of the diplomatic staff serving in Stockholm, and other dignitaries.
The event is planned in advance. At exactly 18:30 the guests are invited to the Blue Hall in the Stockholm City Hall building to take their seats. At seven the dignitaries will arrive at their tables. At 19:09 the King will raise a toast and invite the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Nobel Foundation, Prof. Benguet Samuelson to host the evening. At 19:10 the King will raise a toast to the memory of Alfred Nobel.
At 19:15 the first course will be served, at 20:07 the main course will be served, while the dessert will be served at 21:17 in a parade of waiters. Coffee will be served at 21:55 and at exactly ten four speeches will be given by one representative of the winners of each award, when Prof. Avraham Hershko will speak on behalf of the chemistry winners. At 22:30 the guests will be asked to leave the tables and dance to the sounds of the Ambassador Orchestra.
