The crew of the shuttle Endeavor on mission STS-118 did not go on a spacewalk on Tuesday. Instead, they used the robotic arm to install a new storage platform (third in number and also known as ESP-3) on the exterior of the space station's P3 component.

Astronauts Tracy Caldwell and Barbara Morgan operated the shuttle Endeavour's robotic arm. Shuttle pilot Charles Hubau and space station flight engineer Clayton Anderson were the controllers of the space station's parallel arm. At the start of the operation, the shuttle's robotic arm lifted the platform out of the shuttle's cargo deck and delivered it to the station's arm, which was used to set it in place. It should be noted that the first two platforms were installed with the help of the astronauts during spacewalks. These platforms are used to store tools used for spacewalks and spare parts for various instruments on the station.

The rest of the astronauts continued transferring the equipment between the station and the shuttle, and began preparations for the third spacewalk expected for today (Wednesday). The team's day began at 06:07 EST with a wake-up call wishing Caldwell a happy birthday.
