A new company enters the field of space hotels. Orion Span announced the launch of Aurora in 2021

The field of space tourism has been developing slowly since the beginning of the decade, when a number of companies announced long ago the establishment of space stations to be used as hotels - including Axion Space and Bigelow Aerospace. Not only the space hotels have not taken off, also projects with more modest ambitions are still grounded - companies such as Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin that are developing dedicated planes to bring tourists to sub-orbital altitude

A new space hotel this week at the Space 2.0 Summit in San Jose, California. The satellite hotel is called "Aurora" (Polar Lights) and according to the Orion Span company, behind it are people with a combined knowledge of \140 years in the manned space industry.

Aurora Station will function as the first luxury hotel in space. The prestigious hotel will host six people at a time - including two staff members. The company promises that space travelers will enjoy an authentic astronaut experience, with an extraordinary adventure during the 12 days journey, at a price of about a third of the cost of a flight ticket for non-Russian astronauts to the International Space Station - from 9.5 to $ 1 million per person. The company is already receiving 80 $ 1,000 per passenger for a spacecraft to take off in 2021 and will begin hosting the civil astronauts in 2022.

"We developed the Aurora Station to provide a tourism destination in space. Upon launch, the Aurora Station will immediately go into service, bringing passengers to space faster and at a lower cost than ever before, while still providing an unforgettable experience," said Frank Bunger, CEO and founder of Orion Span. "Orion Span also took the 24-month training course that space station passengers are required to go through and shortened it to three months."

He said some of the studies would be conducted via the Internet and donated at a training facility in Houston. The final qualification will be completed during the stay at Aurora Station.

During their stay at Aurora Station, passengers will enjoy the thrill of gravity, fly freely around Aurora Station, gaze at the northern and southern lights through the many windows, soar above their city, participate in research experiments such as growing food (which they can take home with them as the ultimate souvenir), savor Experience virtual reality on the holodeck, and stay in touch or even broadcast live thanks to high-speed Internet access. Aurora will circle the earth at an altitude of 320 km and the duration of the circuit will be 90 minutes, which means they will be able to watch 16 sunrises and sunsets on average every 24 hours. The company is also planning a VIP reception for them upon their return.

"The Aurora station will be multi-purpose," added Banger. We could rent the hotel to space agencies that would request to have manned flights at a fraction of the cost, and would only pay for the use. We will also support research in zero gravity and manufacturing in space. The station will also be able to expand according to demand, like a city, and then we can sell dedicated modules, which will actually be the first homes in space. Unit owners will be able to visit or sublet their unit. It's an exciting field and Orion Span is proud to pave the way."

The company did not say from which launcher the launch to the private space station will take place, nor who will build the spacecraft itself.

The field of space tourism has been developing slowly since the beginning of the decade, when a number of companies announced long ago the establishment of space stations to be used as hotels - including Axion Space and Bigelow Aerospace. Not only the space hotels did not take off, also projects with more modest ambitions are still grounded - companies like Virgin Galactic and Blue Origin are developing dedicated planes to bring tourists up to a sub-orbital altitude (about 120-130 km) where they can experience low gravity very much and the earth in all its glory.

The whole field has slowed down in recent years after a serious accident in which a pilot was killed and his friend was seriously injured In the crash of the Virgin Galactic space plane during training.

Therefore, we have to wait and see when the construction of the space hotels and launch vehicles will also be announced, since it is not certain that three years is a sufficient time.

  1. Maybe you mean this form: http://www.openculture.com/2013/12/sign-immigration-form-after-the-first-moon-landing.html

It was a joke, if I had to guess - the initiative of Buzz Aldrin the clown.

In any case, stamping passports is a way to track who goes in and out, and it's not a serious legal problem, there simply aren't many of them.. Yes, there is a problem of: which country's law is relevant in space or on the moon. I remember there was an article about it in the science...

  2. As soon as they build a hotel on the moon, and it is only a matter of time, it will be necessary to take into account a legislative problem that must be taken into account, and that is passports. All the Apollo pilots who flew to the moon had their passports signed and this is the reason that when they were fired they went outside the borders of the USA. The legislator will have to take this into account.
