Exclusive to the science site: teachers are paid in mysticism and the new era

A teacher in Israel can take a course in numerology, astrology and Kabbalah, within the framework of the Central Teacher Training School. For some reason, this does not concern the Ministry of Education, nor the Teachers' Union, nor the continuing education fund that finances the dubious pleasure

The topic of the return of mysticism will be one of the topics that will be raised at the evening of the study "Threats to Science and Reason" of the Hidan website and the Hamada Center which will be held on Wednesday, 2/11/2011 at 19:00 at Hamada, Pardes 7 Tel Aviv.

New era studies for teachers

By Aryeh Seter and Avi Blizovsky

A teacher in Israel can take a course in numerology, astrology and Kabbalah, within the framework of the Central Teacher Training School.

A brochure detailing the training courses offered this year for teachers, by the Teachers' Association in Israel, was handed over to us. Although the training courses, most of them, are relevant to the professional development of the teachers and broadening their horizons, we found among the pages of the brochure a course titled "New Era Studies - Numerology, Astrology and Kabbalah Theory".

The course lecturer is described as an "astrologer and numerologist, a senior lecturer at international conferences and a regular columnist in Maariv newspaper." Below is the description of the course as it appears in the brochure.
"In this course we will be exposed to the wonderful power of the New Age studies: numerology, astrology and Kabbalah, teachings that help a person to indicate his destiny in life. The course will give the participants practical tools to realize their personal potential, to choose moves at the right time and at the right time for us, in order to succeed in the fields of relationships, livelihood, studies, occupation, parenting and to lead us on the right path during periods of various transitions in our lives.
Among the topics:
* Date of birth as a tool to identify vocation, cycles and life lessons according to astrology and numerology
* Decoding and reading names - the power of the letters and the meaning of each letter in our name. The Kabbalistic meaning of each letter in the name
* Numerological and astrological matching - name selection and matching, name change. Matrimonial, business, professional compatibility, parent-child relationships and more...
* Numerological and astrological forecast - making moves at the right time in order to succeed in road affairs in our lives
* Applied kabbalistic tools for realizing personal correction and vocation
* Interpretation of dreams according to Kabbalah
* Meditation - to connect with the soul through breathing
* Relationship and parentage according to the Kabbalah
Each of the participants will receive an astrological and numerological map."
So much for the language of the brochure "Training XNUMX" of the Central School for Teacher Training on behalf of the Training and Continuing Education Division of the Teachers' Association in Israel.

It should also be noted that among the pages of the brochure we also found a training program called "A healthy lifestyle according to Chinese medicine" which gives us "an opportunity to get closer and feel the reservoir of life that creates us and in which we take part". The training discusses, among other things, Tao, Yin and Yang, the three treasures - Ging Shen and Qi, the five phases, the full and hollow organs, the meridians, physical, mental and spiritual food, Qigong...

Since we believe that such content should not be included in the training program offered to teachers, we decided to contact the appropriate authorities to get their response. We focused on the "New Age Studies - Numerology, Astrology and Kabbalah" training, the details of which we provided above.

In response to our request to the Ministry of Education, we were informed that the training of teachers on the Sabbath has nothing to do with the Ministry, the Teachers' Union is an independent body and their school is a body that is not supervised by the Ministry in any way. Supervision takes place on an educational institution that has an institution symbol given to it by the state. The teachers union school does not have an institution symbol, and it operates on behalf of the union and under its sole responsibility, so you must contact them for a response. The truth is that we expected such a reaction, but we expected to hear the opinion of the ministry on the inclusion of such content in teacher training courses, even if the ministry has no authority regarding these training courses.

We approached the teacher training school and firmly expressed our opinion about including the course in their program. Among other things, we noted that the very inclusion of the course as mentioned, gives the subjects taught in it, the approval of the Teachers' Union, even though they are illusory and false. We also expressed our opinion that just as Avital was kicked out of the Ministry of Education, so too should the aforementioned course be kicked out of the school program.

Below is the response of Zion Sorek, director of the Central School for Teacher Training.
"The program of the central school for teacher training has room for personal-professional development courses, empowerment courses as well as enrichment and remedial courses. According to the rules of the training funds for teachers, teachers may choose to study 4 hours out of 16 hours of enrichment and remediation.

We acknowledge you for your comment and your interest." This is an exact quote from the written response.

We also applied to the training fund for teaching staff. Moti Miroz, the chairman of the foundation, explained to us: "We approve for teachers in the sabbatical year compulsory studies and supplementary studies. As part of the supplementary studies, if a teacher wants to study astrology, we allow him."

"The sabbatical year is defined by us as a year in which the teacher can study for 16 hours per week, of which 12 hours are mandatory hours and these are hours that are in the field of his work, for example an English teacher can study didactics. There are a number of pedagogical fields that are shared by all teachers and there are continuing education classes specific to the teacher's field of specialization."

"Four extra hours is an authority and in our training booklet there is a huge variety of courses. For example, a teacher who wishes to do so, can study the history of cinema and in this context he also sees films and receives lectures in the field of cinema; Another field, for example, is art history."

"The purpose of the sabbatical year, especially in the new era ("the new era"!) of the reform where teachers stay until three o'clock and the level of attrition is very high, is that in addition to professional development, this is a year when the teacher gets some fresh air."

We asked: Could he not pass the vanity on to the children?
"I am not an expert in pedagogy."

We asked: Is there an inspector who checks if the teachers who are registered for the astrology course actually come, and what do they learn?

"There is an inspector on our behalf who supervises the implementation of the training and makes sure that the teachers do not work on us with their eyes and carry out the hours as they have committed to carry out and he also goes over the study content."

Miroz also added that to the best of his knowledge there are opinions here and there regarding the truth of astrology, but he is a financier and is not knowledgeable in the field.

what do you think?

  1. Is it known what the economic potential of these air businesses is?
Capitalism does not really care what is behind a successful business, so it is possible that the state will pimp such "sciences" if it believes that they are not really harmful.

  2. Avi Blizovsky, Hello.

I follow your posts and your comments. I would like to strengthen your hands.

The problem is that in schools and universities, they don't teach the differences between the scientific way of thinking vs

    Philosophical thinking and religious-mystical thinking.

The scientific way of thinking is taught only for scientific research, and only for the needs of advancing the academic degree. and the research

    Practical in the workplace.

That's why even people who work in the natural sciences mix up the forms of thinking. And even try to convince and prove you are right

their word and lead their lives by mixing the forms of thinking.

The development of human thinking, its beginning in mystical thinking. Associating powers and meanings to things in the environment

and in the definition of personal and social life.

Then the religions developed. At the same time, the philosophical thinking that does not depend on religion developed.

And the new way of thinking in human development, which began with the scientific revolution, is scientific thinking

    in the natural sciences.

Unfortunately, the teachers in the education systems of all kinds, do not enlighten the minds of the learners, for use in everyday life

which can be done in scientific thinking, and not just for academic advancement. Whether in relation to the environment, or in the management of life

    the personal and the social.

Your voice is as important as Stephen Hawkins, Richard Dawkins, Jack Fresco and others who are trying to persuade people

make use of scientific thinking. And not only in its products but in progress in the fields of applied science

    and in technology.

    Best regards, Menashe.

Here is a quote from Doxiadis (p. 138):

"Sammy's theory of hubris haunted me from the moment I heard it, and after my brief perusal of the annals of mathematics I embraced it with all my heart. His words about the dangers of getting too close to truth in its absolute form continued to echo in my mind. The image of the "mad mathematician" was a fact, not a figment of the imagination."

He does not think that the Cuckoos go to high mathematics - he thinks that mathematics makes them so.

But that's just a writer's opinion. I have not yet received any studies or statistics from any commenter here, whether there is a correlation or not. It still seems to me that even if there is something in Doxiadis' words, and even a lot, it is better to be a "scientist" as you define it, even if the price is giving up the satisfied and stupid smile.

  4. deep blue:
Indeed - I have never experimented with hallucinogenic drugs, but the video you attached confirms my words.
Have you tried to disagree with my words or support them?

  5. Israelhttps://www.hayadan.org.il/new-age-for-teachers-3010114/#comment-312939):
I don't know what you think a "stable person" is.
Religion was not called "opium for the masses" for nothing.
The reason is that its results are very similar to those of hallucinogenic drugs.
Are murder and the preaching of murder signs of stability?
Are dancing on the hills and singing "Utzo Asheh and Tofer" a sign of stability?
Is having all kinds of instructions attributed to an imaginary friend a sign of stability?
Is baseless confrontation with unequivocal facts revealed by science a sign of stability?

  6. Israel:
    Yes. Check.

Read, for example, about Hardy on Wikipedia:

Hardy was extremely shy as a child, and was socially awkward, cold and eccentric throughout his life. During his school years he was top of his class in most subjects, and won many prizes and awards but hated having to receive them in front of the entire school. He was uncomfortable being introduced to new people, and could not bear to look at his own reflection in a mirror. It is said that, when staying in hotels, he would cover all the mirrors with towels.[11]

The truth is that regardless of whether Doskiadis is right, it doesn't seem to me that he is saying anything that contradicts my words.

And regarding the objective criterion - the criterion of belief in vain beliefs is objective.
In my opinion - what you tried to say is not that you are looking for an objective criterion, but that you are looking for a definition of "psychic" that would be objectively correct.
This is, of course, an unattainable goal because words have no objective meaning (which is why different words represent the same thing in different languages). Words constitute a social convention.
In my opinion, belief in false beliefs is part of the social convention regarding the meaning of the word "psychic".
There is a dispute on the question "what are the vanity beliefs and what are the established beliefs" but this question can only be clarified through science and for the most part - the believers of the vanity beliefs oppose science when it judges their beliefs.

  7. Machel
From what you said about drugs, I'm sure you've never tried LSD.

Watch an American government research document from the 50s on the drug, a psychiatrist interviews a perfectly normal housewife, before and while under the influence of the drug.
This is her first time taking the drug.
There is also a discussion at the end of the video with the philosopher Gerald Hird, who also experimented.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5d4wWGK4Ig

  8. Michael
And also: people who take hallucinogenic drugs are not defined as "stable" according to Orthodoxy. So this reasoning is not acceptable, according to my criteria.

  9. Michael
"The people you mentioned suffered from mental problems long before they acquired the knowledge they acquired." Check?

Because this is not Doskiadis' theory. He writes: "I began to see the great men of action of the "Queen of Sciences" as a kind of moth butterflies attracted to a kind of human god of light, bright but burning and cruel."

And as for your opinion - everyone has opinions, that's why I'm looking for objective criteria.

  10. Israel:
I did not understand what you want.
I don't know about any research but I know that drugged people are happy and that's enough for me to understand that the degree of happiness is not something that should be measured in isolation from other things.
    That's what I told you.
I don't know if knowing the day of my death will benefit me or harm me.
I would be happy if this figure was available for my inspection so that I could see it if I felt it was important to me for making any decision and the decision whether to see it or not would be up to me.
In any case, I wouldn't want someone to present me with a lie as if it were the truth.

The people you mentioned had mental problems long before they acquired the knowledge they acquired.
They point, perhaps, to a phenomenon of a certain correlation between genius and social eccentricity and not to anything related to the influence of knowledge.

By the way - in my opinion, anyone who believes in false beliefs is a psychopath, therefore the percentage of psychopaths among the Rabbis, Kabbalists and Rebbe is 100

  11. R. H.
The book is not about a single genius who went crazy. He mentions in this context (p. 136 onwards): Gedel (incompleteness theorems), Cartheodory, Littlewood, Hardy, Ramangoan, Turing, Pascal, Newton and Cantor. One can add to them Leibniz, Boltzmann, Nash, and many others.

And regarding the question you asked: I would take the blue for the heart and the red for the brain. In life, in my opinion, one should be both in Ghaira and in these.

    Michael
I didn't get an answer - is there a correlation or not? Do you know about research or not?
And personally: would you like to know the day of your death or not?

    Dan
I'm just looking for objective criteria, rather than very difficult to define. If you have any preferred settings, I would be happy to accept them.

  12. Israel Shapira,
Comment and question. First of all, in the book David Petros and the Goldbach Hypothesis, a private case of a genius who did not exhaust himself was brought up and the main dilemmas in my opinion were there regarding how researchers, whether alone or in collaboration, whether to publish discoveries or not to publish and what unpublished discoveries are worth. There was less reference to the state of happiness in relation to genius.

My question to you is the Matrix movie dilemma. Would you rather take the blue pill that will make you feel like you are living a happy life or would you rather take the red pill that will show you that the real reality is horrible but you will know the truth?

  13. withering:
    Nice responses.
Randy's experiment with the crystals reminds me of an experiment I once offered to someone who wanted to sell my friends insoles with magnets that "improve health".
He also tested things by putting pressure on the hand of the face.
I suggested that without anyone seeing - I would put some insoles under the carpet, with one of the pairs being his and let him identify - by placing my friend on the insoles and pressing with them - which pair of insoles is his.
He was probably smarter than the lady in the video and just gave up on the experiment and stopped trying to convince my friend.

    Israel:
You have a fundamental error in approach.
After all, those who take hallucinogens also feel free and happy.
    Is this a criterion?
And on the other hand - there are people who suffer greatly from a terminal illness and do not commit suicide because they think that God will punish them in the next world.
And in principle - what is the basis for the question of whether information helps or not? Do you want to know this information (the answer to the question)? After all, if information is harmful - just harm yourself with this information.

And in general - this site is intended for those who think that knowledge is a good thing. That's why they call him "Hidan". Anyone who thinks that knowledge is harmful would do well not to enter here at all because he may be harmed.

    Jojo:
It seems to me that you think there is absolute good and bad dictated by an objective factor.
That's why you talk about "damage to the environment".
So tell me: is eradicating diseases (destroying entire populations of bacteria) harming the environment?
It should be understood that the terms good and bad that we use are not something that is dictated from the outside - it is only about the good of the person. A change in the environment is "damage" only if it harms a person.
There have already been entire primitive populations that became extinct due to damage they caused to the environment.
Science is the one that brought us to understand this concept, recognize its existence, and begin to take it into account when choosing our steps.
Pluralism of opinions is only good when it comes to a plurality of logical opinions.
There is no reason to promote lies in the name of pluralism.

  14. Israel,
I strongly oppose rule 3, including whether it is possible to have some kind of definition for the phrase "stable and happy"
Because life is dynamic and a person is affected by events that do not depend only on him.

  15. withering.
I chose these criteria because I tried to define objective criteria that would be agreed upon on both sides of the barrier.

My subject - is there a correlation between what we generally define as "genius" and a precarious state of mind, as claimed in the book "Uncle Petros and the Goldbach Hypothesis". (I really don't know, I'd be very happy if not).

In order not to be dragged into a subjective and loaded debate along the lines of "is Anat Kam a traitor or a humanist", I tried to establish the same clear and agreed upon criteria:

    1. A person does not reach out in his soul when he is stable and happy.

    2. From the way things are, a stable and happy person will not be hospitalized.

    3. A person will not seek psychological help if he is stable and happy.

Other criteria are of course possible, but they should be acceptable on both sides of the fence.

As for myself - as I mentioned, I prefer the fruit of the tree of knowledge even at the price of expulsion from Eden.

  16. my respect,

It is also possible to check which society causes more damage to its neighbor - a more technological/scientific society versus a failing society? To compare the damage caused by Japan to China, the USA to Japan, Germany to Poland... Did I make myself clear?

And to Kamila... it is clear that a technological society will extend the life expectancy of its citizens and reduce the mortality of its babies, the comparative test you presented is indeed valid. But what will be the findings of the comparison if we examine the happiness of the two populations? the degree of personal freedom? the damage to the environment? Are you the extinction of plant and animal species? the amount of working hours?

Technology and science are the size of the vector, the direction is given by morality and faith. All religions are fundamentally moral and good, they all played a historical role in building a more just society... the problem is the people! There were also bad people in secular dictatorships (Nazism, fascism, communism and secular autocracies).

In my opinion there is protection in pluralism of opinions and there is danger in unanimity, but hey... that's just Jojo's opinion.

  17. withering,
You can simply test your idea on three groups of animals infected or sick with cancer. One group is untreated, the second is treated with conventional medical treatment and the third group is treated with the cutting edge of alternative treatment including Reiki, homeopathy, acupuncture, crystals, positive thinking, super ions The stomach, cupping and any other "medical" way. I wonder which group will survive?

  18. lion,
As M.R. He wrote above: "There are psychics among the scientists and this is not new".
And as Yoav Ben Dov said himself: "I went to the edge of rationality and found myself on the other side"
And this is really the correct definition of the new era - that is, practices that are outside of rationality. It is clear that science does not have the tools to decipher mechanisms that are not rational, but one has to be a real psychic to claim that a simple scientific experiment cannot determine at least whether a treatment based on crystals, for example, works or not, even without saying something about the mechanism that underlies the treatment:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_MzP2MZaOo&feature=player_embedded

I found this video on a great blog called "Sharp Thinking" (http://sharpthinkingblog.wordpress.com/tag/%D7%A9%D7%A8%D7%9C%D7%98%D7%A0%D7%95%D7%AA/) and in connection with the current topic, I find it appropriate to quote from an investigation done by the blog writer on the power of crystals which, in my opinion, illustrates the meaning of being outside of rationality:

"Dr. Astia Hoter Rasem was actually the first person I turned to with a question about studies that show that crystals have some kind of effect on a person. I recommend you to look at her impressive "holistic resume", which convinced me that she is a real expert. Between the years 1991-2002 she carried out research and treatment with a variety of methods in England, Norway and New York. And in 2002 she received her doctorate in "Metaphysical Counseling" from the University of Metaphysics, USA. She developed methods such as the "Hother of the Human Light" - the therapy of colors through the fulfillment of the eternal soul, or "cleaning magnetic holograms" - liberation from static electricity disturbances on the brain that frees from destructive circuits delays, learning disorders, autism and more.
How disappointed I was when I received a curt reply from her in this language:
"We don't need scientific studies to know what happens in nature."

  19. Israel,
It is not clear to me why these are the criteria you chose to be a person defined as "psychic". Do you really not notice the bias in these criteria to the "disadvantage" of people whose lifestyle is secular? My criteria include some other topics that you left out for some reason, such as believing in things that have been proven to be untrue or performing pagan rituals in which animals are abused (slaughtering roosters on Yom Kippur, for example) and humans (circumcision, for example), including people who walk and mutter to themselves or to trees and pigeons all kinds of strange mutterings They are already suspicious to me as not really sane. I won't even begin to talk about the sanity of people who adopt for themselves horrible moral rules that cannot be held by a sane person, and through which they justify violence and coercion against women, those with a different sexual orientation or just gentiles (and sometimes also against other Jews and Jewish women who do not grow wigs or shave their heads their respective hairs). According to such criteria, there are very few secularists (and scientists in particular) who can be called psychos. The definition here is the most important thing for classifying people one way or the other (if it's even possible) especially when behavior is measured in relation to the accepted norm in that society (which can be very different between different societies) so you need to pay a little more attention to the definitions given about what the accepted norm is. As mentioned, your criteria are problematic. Even hospitalization is a very problematic criterion when comparing a religious and secular population because many religious people, especially ultra-Orthodox, "solve" this problem in other, non-"official" ways.

Regarding the benefit or harm of information, an experiment can be carried out in which we isolate two populations where one will have real knowledge about the world, one that has been tested using a scientific method (technology and medicine) and the other will not have such knowledge but only "alternative" knowledge such as religion and homeopathy. After some time we will check indicators such as the average life expectancy, infant mortality, etc. Actually, there is no need to perform the experiment because it is possible to compare these indices between the modern period and between documented historical periods. Both then and today, belief in religions and supernatural healing methods prevailed. On the other hand, modern technology and medicine exist only in modern times (roughly, a period of about two hundred years is determined). The changes in the various indices between the periods would be difficult to attribute to religions or to Chinese medicine methods that have existed for thousands of years and it is probably more correct to attribute such changes to the knowledge accumulated with the growth and progress of science. Now ask yourself which era do you prefer to live in? During the Middle Ages for example? Where knowledge was scarce, or in this period? It's also not clear to me what the example of knowing the day of your death is supposed to show other than the mere existence of things that some of us don't want to know, Sue Watt? For anything you don't want to know, I can show you ten or a hundred (and probably more) things that the explained person would want to know, and this is not surprising at all because by nature we are very curious creatures. Unfortunately, there are cultures in which the suppression of natural curiosity is such a central approach that the unfortunates who are captives there become led sheep, lacking knowledge and later also mindless.

  20. An example of Gali's colleague (philosopher of science) who deals intensively with the affairs of the new era - Yoav Ben Dov.

  21. Michael
The question is whether the percentage of psychiatry among scientists is not much higher than in the normal population.

And isn't it much lower among what I defined as "rabbis, admors, kabbalists" when the number one criterion for "psychotics" is suicide, the second hospitalization, and the third clinical depression.

Is knowledge always positive? Would you like to know the day of your death in advance?

My puppy doesn't know him. In fact, he does not even know that she will die. This is perhaps why he is the happiest and happiest creature I know.

  22. jelly:
I personally know a person with similar characteristics (actually this is the same person with whom I went to the information session).
This is not a story that fits your explanation.
There are psychics even among scientists and this is not new.

  23. Michael,
Here is a book about the life of Jack Parsons. During the day he would work on the rockets and he founded the laboratory for jet fun that they jokingly called: Jack Parsons Lab. And after work he would call himself the Antichrist, and he dealt in the world of magic and the occult and spirituality. And this is a true story of his life and a well-known story. And I think he also died because of this story; I don't know exactly what happened to him. Surely my father knows...
Here is the link to the book:

    http://www.amazon.com/Sex-Rockets-Occult-World-Parsons/dp/0922915970

  24. In the book "Uncle Petros and the Goldbach Hypothesis" Doxiadis raises an intriguing point: there is a direct connection between the degree of greatness of a mathematician or scientist and his precarious mental state.

In the book, a descriptive description of Kurt Gadel, "the high priest of modern logic, the new Aristotle", who is getting more and more crazy to the point of suicide. ("Attic" p. 136).

Then a considerable list of science and mathematics people who went crazy, committed suicide, or went into deep depression. Out of respect we will not mention names.

John Nash in the "Wonders of Reason" was also quite a ponytail.

    So I have a question (a question - not taking a position!).

Have we really done research on the correlation between the mental health of the "priests" of science and their scientific greatness?

Has a similar study been done on the religious "priests" for example? Rabbis, Admors, Kabbalists, are they all happy and good-hearted? Are they hospitalized in psychiatric wards? commit suicide?

Does the price of tasting the tree of knowledge justify the price? Expulsion from heaven, even of fools?

I (and here I am taking a stand) believe so, but I would still like to know what the researchers say.

  25. jelly:
I have never come across such an article in my life and in my opinion this is, among other things, a result of the fact that this thing almost never happens.
People sometimes go to newsletters just for entertainment.
I too once responded to a friend's pleas and joined him on such a visit - only to catch the scholar in error to prove to him that it was a lie. (My success was only partial. I was able to show him that the information session worked for him, but the result was not that he stopped going to the information sessions, but only that he replaced this information session with another).

    Uzi Yaer:
Did you see a call to the thought police here?
No! So why are you bringing this up?
People here are outraged and rightfully so - that the tax money they pay is being wasted on teaching nonsense and not on teaching this nonsense to just people but to those who may pass the nonsense on to their children.
Shouldn't you resent it? Is there a thought police that banned it?

  26. So what, shall we form a thought police? And why is studying literature or philosophy okay? Besides, regarding alternative medicine: I got rid of massive smoking with the help of acupuncture and pain in my left knee with the help of reflexology. Everyone should learn what they want as long as they don't force their opinions on others.

  27. For all those who believe in various vanities such as reading in coffee, tea, in the market, on tarot cards, see what happened to Baba Eliezer who prescribed amulets, spells and holy water for a person with serious problems, when that didn't help the person solved his problems with a knife.

  28. So I will reveal to you that today there are also scientists who go to read in the cafe and all kinds of spiritualists. It does not enter into their scientific works. Why do they turn to New Age and spirituality? I will explain exactly to you. When you get too deep into science you discover that science does not answer all your questions. The reason is clear: science is different from religion. Religion always has an answer to every question: God created, God did, it's because of God and all. Science is more skeptical. For example, regarding the big bang, there are several explanations and they try to look for particles in the big accelerator and put forward several theories: quantum gravity and string theory and they are not sure if they will discover the Higgs particle and they are not sure if this mutation actually led to this disease. There are many holes in the knowledge. And the deeper we go into scientific research, the more holes we discover in the scientific theories that must be filled in with scientific research and new experiments. So the scientists look for some sort of refuge for this momentary despair that they discover. They don't turn to religion and they continue this Sisyphean effort of filling in the holes in scientific knowledge and they sometimes go to all these spiritualists. But it does not enter into scientific research. This is true. Then suddenly a scientific article about Parsons is published: "The Mad Scientist", Parsons went crazy, went to seances.

  29. Gali, in Newton's time they didn't know enough to rule out the phenomenon of ghosts and as for NASA people and scientists who dealt with spirituality. Crazy people are everywhere, the fact that they didn't mention it in their scientific works says Darshani. Today we cannot afford the luxury that the few people who hold the scientific enterprise (relative to the mostly dumb population) will also go crazy.

  30. The reason is that no one is perfect and even great scientists can fail in adopting the scientific method, great and creative scientists are great and creative scientists and a stupid belief is a stupid belief. Please don't try to explain one through the other.
The said examples at most should teach humility.
Alchemy is not a breakthrough idea, but a combination of nonsense.
Open-mindedness turns out to be the desire to reject scientific methodology based on faith.
    Fantastic, fantastic world (literally).

  31. Finally some words of wisdom and thinking outside the box. Gali - you have a lot to teach the people here about open-mindedness.

  32. Avi,

More than once in history, even the scientists themselves have dealt with issues that can be called "New Age". Newton was a lover of alchemy and spiritual ideas, Parsons who was one of the fathers of NASA was infected with the madness that was common in those years in Hollywood, séances and all spirituality. There were many scientists who were involved in both science and spirituality. The reason is that great and creative scientists do not belong to the mainstream, the tailored and normative scientist.

  33. To all those interested in medicine and alternative medicine, I highly recommend the site

    Science-Based medicine

Pay attention to the abundance of articles discussing different methods of "alternative and complementary medicine"

Especially in homeopathy, chiropractic, reflexology, energy medicine, etc., etc.

And they reveal the lack of foundation, ignorance, charlatanism, lying and thievery in these methods.

Also, the website does not spare its tongue from ignorant politicians who pretend to support the law

and even finance "alternative" medical methods, thereby not only causing a waste of public money,

but also to medical damage to many people and quite a few deaths. Of course the clear example of this

She is what happened to Steve Jobs.

It is true that he himself chose alternative treatments which of course had no medical effect on his cancer,

But it is certain that he will find charlatan therapists who will support him and certainly also promise him recovery.

Which proves that even a computer genius can be ignorant of medicine with a tendency to vain beliefs!

  34. It is not necessary to understand "how" any mystical Torah works in order to be classified as scientific. The various mystical teachings do not pass tests using the double blind method (in a way that is not ambiguous), so in fact statistically or quantitatively, such teachings resolutely fail the test of reality (assuming we all agree here that 2 is greater than 1, and 2 million is even much greater, yes?) . If such a theory had been passed, it would have been classified as scientific (along with other controlled studies being done at the same time - such as aspirin). Various studies have been done in the past and are being done in the present that try empirically to find a clear statistical correlation between the various teachings and the results that those teachings claim to provide (at least for those for which some kind of controlled experiment can even be conceived), but as mentioned, no connection has yet been found between the things.
Those who insist on saying that Chinese medicine (for that matter) belongs in academia, even though repeated studies will not find any quantitative relationship between treatments in this Torah and their apparent results, and even though various treatments in this "medicine" will repeatedly fail the double-blind tests, at all Does not understand what research is.

Some people won't let the facts confuse them.

  35. Indeed, since the opposition to Ritalin comes from a religious sect that is not backed by any scientific evidence, there is no reason to oppose a drug that can help children concentrate and learn.

In addition, the high-tech is what makes our existence possible here, thanks to the taxes of the high-tech people, the government has the money to pay the yeshiva members who are idle, and who sanctify the ignorance (by literally violently preventing the core studies of half of the students today so that they will not go to high-tech and pay taxes but remain sheep of the rabbis' pasture and live at the expense of all of our taxes).

  36. I read, this is a private madness of the Indian Minister of Education, who happens to be a doctor by profession. Most importantly - it is explicitly written there that the National Academy of Sciences condemns the decision, and that it is a legitimization of pseudo-science and superstitions. Except that according to the quote from the Minister of Science, they will waste the money of the Indian taxpayers there to check whether the astrology is correct or not, and it's a shame for their money - the answer is known. There are better things to do with the budget of a country whose inhabitants are mostly poor.

  37. Ofer according to the knowledge site
Education = put every child in the State of Israel on Ritalin and anti-depressants and direct them all to work in high-tech
    And don't ask unnecessary questions

  38. First thank you for the exposure, and then just a joke. On the one hand we are moving towards a very interesting development in general humanity, and on the other hand there are still tails left to the old system. In no case do all the cases mentioned above have any hold on the creation of life, values, or any hold. All their purpose is to sharpen the correct, emotional, and intellectual reality over reading in a cup of coffee or red ribbons. In addition, efforts should be made to organize educational panels, in order to arouse the public's heart, and to distance it from this kind of nonsense, such as igniting the protest, for correct regulation of the means of the education system. The time has come to find out the basics of what is education? And how do we put it into practice?

  39. Jeju Abutbol,
It is true that everyone is allowed to learn what they want. But when I send my children to a teacher who teaches them for a considerable time during the day I want to believe that he is the best teacher. The purpose of these trainings is not to raise the salary of the teachers as someone wrote above, but to broaden their minds and train them in subjects that are not usually taught. We are the ones who finance the trainings. That's why I don't think that teaching irrelevant nonsense can be helpful for teachers but can be harmful. Want to learn nonsense that will be respected and will go at their leisure and at their own expense.

All in all, the picture that emerges from the above post is sad, very sad. Both what is written in it and the angry reactions of people who do not understand what the problem is and what the authors are angry about.

The big damage here is the legitimization of nonsense. If it is taught in teacher training, if it appears on hundreds of websites including the leading news sites, if it appears in almost every daily newspaper, if the television devotes hours upon hours to "New Age", the picture emerges that it is true and this is the damage.

One last point regarding your claim that the topics you mentioned are not scientific is clearly incorrect. There are very serious scientists doing very serious research on the subjects you mentioned. See, for example, Dan Arieli or studies mentioned in the book "Why Kamikaze Pilots Wear Helmets" and you will see how many scientific insights emerge from these studies.
Science is anything that man wonders about and tries to understand, in any field. By the way, astrology and numerology were also examined with scientific tools and the determination that they are nonsense is based on serious research and examination and not on any gut feeling.

  40. Science cannot be copied. Have you heard about copyright, or do the New Agers have everything?

But if Science regularly publishes articles in favor of evolution and against astrology, alternative medicine, etc., I am also allowed. I doubt if he will change his mind because this is the opinion of science and no interest will move them.

  41. to my father,

If science is your model, maybe you should copy it exactly and not publish opinion articles under the guise of science.
You want to block, block, in any case the members of the site's board know exactly who it is.
And the benefit of reacting against the dictates of the directorate is probably similar to speaking to the spirit.
Also, enough and enough, their souls were torn apart.

  42. For those who didn't understand: people are allowed to study numerology and astrology and zoology - no one will be sued or accused or hanged!

I am allowed to say that the lessons of my life and lessons from the experience of others have taught me that this is a vanity that is sometimes even harmful. Science is not always right, science is never complete and it is full of weaknesses and people are full of weaknesses - it is still the best option to proceed according to it (in my opinion anyway).

On the other hand, there are topics that are clearly not scientific - for example, the happiness of the person, the eye of the person, his self-image, etc. It could be brain trouble to think that everything is "scientific".

As an occasional visitor to this site, I unfortunately see this narrow-mindedness on this site as well... in the lack of tolerance and respect for different forms of life, such as the religious and "spiritual". In terms of the history of science, it can be learned that the opposition to real science and the revelations of truth came from within the scientific establishment as much as from outside it... This is a lesson that every true scientist should always have in front of my eyes!

  43. Enough and enough, my model is Science and Nature and not New Age Today.
Have you ever seen a religious website or a New Age website that correctly represents science? They distort it so that it proves their Torah nonsense. But one must not defend oneself, the people who profit from the public's superstition should be allowed to run amok and make sure that the public does not accept the truth because it interferes with their livelihood.
post Scriptum. Multiple aliases of the same person is a violation of the site's regulations and justifies blocking.

  44. The soul of the other self was torn, so they replaced it sufficiently.

Don't worry, we didn't expect more from you either. My father actually does.

Looks like we were fooled. Too bad.

  45. By the way, enough is enough:
What is it, you've already used the nickname "the other me" enough and that's why you're changing identities?
    So what?
Are you now the same me and not the other me?

  46. to my father,

Here is the explanation - a website that claims to be scientific and publishes an article against the right of people to learn what they want is a website that brings a dark and limited dictatorial approach. Such an approach is not acceptable in any type of advertising in a democratic country, not even religious or other advertising.
If you want to get down to their level, don't link to your site crowns of a site that promotes science - you are no better than the darkest primitive.
We expected more from you and your website.

  47. I wonder, how in a progressive country is a group of charlatans allowed to deceive the naive part of the public??
All numerology, astrology and similar nonsense - shame that it is even a topic of discussion. For me, they should be outlawed. What is it if not fraud and breach of trust? This is the mother of deception and breach of trust.

  48. Avi:
I must say that the reaction of the homophobe actually encourages me.
From time to time surveys are published on the percentage of homophobes in the population and other times surveys are published on the percentage of people who believe nonsense.
It is good to see that there are cases where these are the same people - this means that the number of crooks in the population is less than one might fear.

By the way - I entered the horoscope site suggested here for entertainment.
Believe me - you haven't read such nonsense as they wrote there in a long time.

  49. To all those beautiful souls who shy away from a direct and firm form of expression like the above article - this is the only way to instill in the minds of those who believe in nonsense, what nonsense! Just as the ultra-orthodox try to dominate their faith by force, so must the scientists do it. There are no pleasant ways to do it.

  50. I can't understand your logic, you want to shut me up by claiming that this is how you manage to maintain freedom of expression?
Since when is freedom of expression limited only to vanity websites - and there are thousands of such, but they shut up the one website in Israel that tells the truth - that New Age is vanity?
    Democracy goes both ways.

  51. Pseudo-scientific vanity sites that take a dark and closed approach to everything that does not fit their order of thinking determined by the site's supreme council of about 3 dictators who take an arrogant, childish and disdainful approach to the point of humiliating and humiliating anyone who thinks differently - all in a "scientific" guise because they are Convinced that "science" shines for them in a place where the sun does not reach.
Indeed McCarthyism is alive and well.

  52. How is Randy's sexual orientation, which was hidden due to social pressures, related to his adherence to the scientific truth in contrast to all kinds of charlatans who don't like being called that, so they decided that whoever tells the truth is also a charlatan?
Unverified Abel New Age sites cannot be an authoritative source. To this day, your nonsense does not have a single proof, you take advantage of people's ignorance as a result of the broken education system to separate them from their money and in some cases (alternative medicine as we saw in the case of Steve Jobs also does not hesitate to separate them from their lives).

  53. The basis is stupidity and since stupidity, opacity, ignorance and vanity have become a currency that passes to the merchant
In order to destroy them, there is no escape from establishing regulations and passing laws against them,
Although there is a debate about the damage caused by drugs, alcohol, cigarettes, etc. there are regulations and laws
To prevent their use ….. since it is clear that stupidity causes damage, the trade should be excluded
Where is it illegal, otherwise we will all drown in the sea of vanity, or be eaten by the spaghetti monster?

  54. By the way, the pretense of naming the vanity beliefs of the Middle Ages as "the new age" makes me laugh every time.

  55. Eran:
    A lie is not information.

    Filochra:
No one dictates to people what nonsense to believe and you will not dictate to the science website what to publish.
News was published here about an outrageous phenomenon where state funds are being wasted on teaching things that have never been proven to be true to those responsible for the education of our children.
What would you say to him that the state provides teacher training on the topic "How did the Jews prepare matzoh based on the blood of Christian children"?

    Chinese doctor:
Your sure it did well if you sell it.
Can you tell us where it enters the academy?
According to Wikipedia it doesn't look like this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_medicine
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alternative_medicine

    Married to a teacher:
Perhaps you can explain to me the importance of teaching things that no one knows?
How about learning about the flying spaghetti monster?
I repeat and emphasize: this is about teaching things that no one knows. Not in discussing the nature of these things but in conveying them to the hearer as if they were true.
Whoever gives such a course is a liar and the system encourages both his lie and the lies that the victims of this lie will pass on to the children.
    It's disgraceful.
    This is the site's opinion.
Does your McCarthyism forbid the site from publishing its opinion?

    full moon:
If there was anything in Elizabeth Levin's research, she would have managed to get it into the scientific press and not settle for a propaganda video.

To all those who believe in nonsense:
If your beliefs have any basis - run and collect the prize offered by James Randi.
    A million dollars don't walk.
    http://www.randi.org/site/index.php/1m-challenge.html

  56. These poor teachers have forty children in their class. No matter what they learn, they can't pass on what they've learned anyway. You can't teach a bunch of forty kids.

  57. I have to put a smile on your lips, I know there is going to be a colorful debate here

"I do not believe in astrology; but then, people of my sign never do.”
    Dr. Charles Tart, psychologist

  58. An article broadcast on Channel 10, in the magazine program with Osherat Kotler
Dr. Elizabeth Levin conducted research for 17 years, and found a connection between people born on that day and similar events that happened to them in their lives. Dr. Levin comes from the field of physics, and in the article before you she reveals the findings of her research

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qVwyXOkxBG8

My father directs less chi to anger. 8)

  59. Notice some aggressive responses,
Afraid of some open discussion? Afraid that the facts and not the opinions will be used as a basis for that discussion? Afraid to lose? What are you so afraid of???
I read the word democracy repeatedly in the posts and still everyone tries to tattoo a discussion...
By the way, in science there is no place for democracy, it is not a popularity contest and you will be surprised but a billion Chinese can be wrong (even over a billion Indians so don't take it hard).
Office donates to teachers, Numerology fills their heads (and the heads of our children) with nonsense that at best is harmless.

  60. It has always been said that science, due to its pursuit of truth, is also the way to a more just and democratic world.
There were also those who opposed it, like Fairhand who said that anyone who thinks he knows the truth and is confident in it is a danger (not an exact quote, but the intention is clear).
In your case he was right, you became Cartesians. I suggest you take down this post.

It is important to study such fields, certainly as enrichment studies. For your information, the meager salary of the teachers increases with the help of seniority and with the help of certain kashruts. Also an office course for example.

And if you already feel like "entering" the New Age, look for the health funds that finance homeopathic treatments from your health insurance funds, this is an example of something that definitely deserves discussion and opposition

  61. There is nothing to be excited about. When the dossies take over the country within half a generation to a generation, they will uproot the whole issue of the Akam. Of course, this will no longer help education in the country, but you are really upset about a trivial problem.
When the level of teachers in the country is so low, what wonder is it that they are unable to distinguish between knowledge and sloppy stupidity?
It's all a matter of pay. If above average people were to go into this profession, then naturally a smaller portion of them would engage in bullshit. From my class in high school, the only three teachers who left us were students who ranked well below average. If they were prevented from learning about ghosts it wouldn't help them to be good teachers - it was hopeless in the first place.

  62. "Avital was kicked out of the Ministry of Education, so should the aforementioned course be kicked out of the school program" - is this the writing style of someone serious? There is also no place for this personal writing of "we expressed our opinion firmly". I would recommend the article on my favorite social network, if it wasn't written in an over-enthusiastic style and with such a childish attitude. Seriously, this is a public site, not a meeting of friends at recess.

As a matter of fact, it certainly seems inappropriate for teachers to undergo training in these subjects, but religious studies worry me more.

  63. New age medicine is always slandered on this site, in any case it is not suitable for everyone and everyone will do what they want...
Chinese medicine has always answered all my needs and my personal development around my professional studies with the help of other tools have greatly contributed to the course of my day-to-day life, so do I and many others.

Enough with the slanders, let's introduce the profession of Chinese medicine into the academy like they have already done all over the world!

  64. Alchemy will be returned to the curriculum immediately.
Touch Wood of course, all the demons came out of the tree.

  65. Believe me, gentlemen, you are worse than Orwell's "1984". But at least in his dystopia it is clear that the state is totalitarian. Here you live in a democratic country, and still pretend to dictate to people what to think and what to believe or not believe. I'm just shocked by you all over again.

  66. My opinion is that if you advocate the freedom of information, a teacher has the right to learn in his enrichment courses what he wants, provided it is approved for him. And if you want to restrict people from choosing enrichment courses because it will "darken" their views or affect their students, then the one exposed here is the one who wrote the article and not the teachers or those who can take this course.
