In a unique and first-of-its-kind project in Israel, today (Friday) the "Nautilus", the research ship of Prof. Bob Ballard, the man who found the Titanic, sailed from the port of Haifa to explore the seabed off the coast of Israel in the area where Israel has rights (including crossing territorial waters) as Leading the research this time are the researchers of the Leon Charney School of Marine Sciences of the University of Haifa.

The "Nautilus" is a research ship equipped with the latest technology for researching the seabed and it includes submersible robots, sophisticated control rooms and more. The person who will replace Ballard as the ship's captain on this voyage is Israel Prize winner Prof. Zvi Ben-Abraham, head of the Leon Charney School of Marine Sciences of the University of Haifa, who will lead the ship in the next two and a half weeks, during which it will explore the seabed. Prof. Ben-Abraham together with the other researchers of the school were the ones who planned the entire scientific side of this voyage.

"This unique collaboration continues the main emphasis that the University of Haifa decided to give to the study of the sea, the resource that holds many discoveries in a variety of fields: economics, medicine, energy, biology and more. The future is in the sea and this voyage is the first step to understanding the mystery of an area that is so close to us on the one hand, but still far and unknown," said university president Prof. Aharon Ben Ze'ev.

  1. Unfortunately, what they will probably find is mountains of waste "in the mall" north of the port of Haifa and a coating of decades of sewage discharge in front of Haifa and Tel Aviv. Sunken cities like Caesarea can only be found near the coast.
Of course there are dozens of sunken ships along the coast [Tlatalana!]
Maybe they will find the ship that Titus sent with the treasures of the Temple?, a more likely chance of finding these treasures in the depths of the Vatican's cellars

  2. Why only two weeks?! Come on, you know the moon better than our sea, which is a distance of 20 minutes by car!
In my opinion, the solution is usually hidden in the body of the problem, and our planet has problems, maybe the solutions are in the sea?!
In many books I read about entire "cities" under water, they want to make a colony on Mars or the Moon, but not under water on our planet and it's a shame, it seems to me more possible on another planet...
