The Weizmann Institute of Science goes out to the general public with "Nanocomics" workshops - science comics for children - that will be held as part of "Animix", the international festival for animation, comics and cartoons. The creative workshops will be guided by Weizmann Institute of Science scientists and comic artists. The six workshops briefly present real scientific questions being investigated by Weizmann Institute scientists, such as, for example, whether parallel universes exist, how motion pictures help in the study of the brain and consciousness, whether it is possible to build tiny nanobiological computers that will prevent diseases in our bodies, and more.

A special workshop, "Mysteries of the Ribosome", will be dedicated to the story of Prof. Ada Yonat's research, which earned her the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for 2009. The workshop will be guided by Dr. Anat Bashan from Prof. Yonat's laboratory, and the director of "Animix", comic artist Nissim Hezekiah ( "Nusko").

The "Nano-Comics" series brings the stories of five regular heroes working at the Institute for Scientific Research. The protagonist of the series is Nano, a boy of about 10, whose parents went on a long journey in space, and he spends a lot of time at his grandmother's workplace, who is the cook in the cafeteria of the scientific institute. His natural curiosity leads him to get involved in scientific adventures that take place at the forefront of scientific research. The other stars of the series are Femto, a senior and mature scientist, with the mind of a child; Giga, a young and energetic multidisciplinary scientist; Mega, a postdoctoral researcher who hides the fact of being a time traveler; And Tara, a graphic designer working at the institute, who sometimes has to remind her scientist friends of the simple facts of life.

The nanocomics stories, based on Weizmann Institute of Science publications, were written by Meir Goldberg; The drawings of the characters and the plots are the work of the illustrator Yaniv Shimoni; Editor: Bisham Azgad.
