How is it possible to cross the "Red Sea", in the process pour wine into a glass and place it on the Passover table, and all this - without human contact and in a matter of seconds?
The "jumper" built by Peleg Harel from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering managed to do it in a few seconds and won the traditional "Technorush" competition, which took place today at the Technion. The competition is held in memory of its creator, the late Capt. Niv-Ya Dorvan, a graduate of the Technion and an outstanding officer in the Air Force, who was brutally murdered by a robber on a quiet street in Tel Aviv.
Peleg built a 1.4 meter long drop bridge that bridged the "Red Sea". An electric pump with a "timer" filled the glass of wine, which was placed on the "Seder night table" by a mechanism that was unloaded from the automatic transmission of a car. The engine that moved the entire device is an electric "scooter" engine. Peleg also used bicycle parts and four baby carriage wheels. "I found a simple solution and built a strong device that will withstand any unexpected surprise," said the winner, 29 years old, born in Kibbutz Gan Shmuel.
Second place went to "Miss World" developed by Aryeh Hominer and Tal Rom from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering.
The unique competition received 61 proposals, of which 42 advanced to the semi-final stage. 18 teams participated in the final competition yesterday, including three teams from high schools.
