Winner of the Nobel Prize for Physiology and Medicine in 2008, Prof. Luc Montagnier accepted the offer of the president of Bar-Ilan University, Prof. Moshe Koa, and will serve as a permanent guest lecturer at the new Faculty of Medicine in Safed. The faculty will open its doors in the next academic year, in October 2011. Prof. Luc Montagnier was awarded the Nobel Prize in collaboration with Prof. Françoise Barre-Sinoussi for the discovery of the AIDS virus.

In 1983, Prof. Montagnier headed a team that first isolated the HIV 1 virus and provided the first proof that this is indeed the virus that causes AIDS. In 1985, Prof. Montanier also isolated the second AIDS virus, 2HIV, in patients from West Africa. Montanier's laboratory was the first to demonstrate that a large proportion of the white blood cells in HIV-infected patients tended to die due to programmed cell death (apoptosis), and attributed the cause to oxidative stress that occurred in the patients' bodies.

Since 2005, Prof. Montagnier has served as president, CEO and founder of Nanctis Biotechnologies. In this role, he developed a new biophysical technology that detects HIV DNA in patients who have received antiretroviral therapy and whose viral load cannot be detected in their blood. The discovery paves the way for the development of new treatments to eradicate HIV infection.

Prof. Montanier's current research focuses on the use of innovative technologies for the diagnosis and treatment of cancers and diseases related to neurodegeneration and joints. As a passionate supporter of preventive medicine, he does much to extend the active lives of the elderly population and help developing countries achieve greater access to modern medicine.

Prof. Montagnier published many studies and registered more than 750 patents for which he won a large number of awards. Today, he was awarded the Tobi Comte-Wallerstein Award, from the Safdia Institute for Research in the Fields of Cancer, AIDS and Immunology at Bar-Ilan University. This week Prof. Luc Montanier also received an honorary doctorate from Bar-Ilan University.

  1. Professor Luc Montagna has certainly presented scientific proof that water remembers and moreover that information stored in it can be restored. If someone doesn't like it, they are welcome to repeat the experiment.

  2. Boy Oh Boy. what a mistake The man is a walking joke, the novel has turned his head. I was at his lecture where he made completely unfounded claims about the memory of water, and everyone was confused, not knowing where to bury themselves. And for all the Nobel Nobel jumpers, check it out a bit. Not only were the claims unfounded, he presented no proof, no experiment could reproduce his results, his paper was rejected from every journal and eventually published somewhere because of his name. disgrace.
It would be a terrible mistake to associate such a person with a serious institution. Friends, the novel dazzles you, you should check it out first.

  3. Mazel Tov. In light of the fact that there is a shortage of doctors and an excess of lawyers, any development is welcome.

  4. Great respect and congratulations to Bar Ilan for being able to recruit such a person. Really well done from the bottom of my heart. I just hope that the budget they spend on it will not come at the expense of another permanent guest lecturer, or several of them. Paying for a brand is all well and good when there is money. And if they have money, I applaud them even more. They strive for academic excellence, like any other academy, and this is evident in their investments in the future generation and their teaching staff.

    Greetings friends,
    Ami Bachar
