The launch of the Space Shuttle Endeavor for mission STS-118 was delayed by 24 hours to allow the shuttle preparation team additional time to complete their routine pre-launch work. The launch is now set for Wednesday, August 8, 18:36 EST (August 9, 01:36 Israel time). The extra day will provide time to complete the proceedings and allow the countdown to begin on Sunday at 20:00 PM (East Coast Time).

The seven astronauts commanded by Scott Kelly arrived at the Kennedy Space Center on a NASA jet from the Houston Space Center. They will spend the remaining days until the launch in the final preparations for the launch, including checking the fit of the suit, briefings, medical examinations and landing training in a plane that simulates the shuttle's landing systems.

A leak that was discovered about a week ago in the passenger compartment of the ferry has been repaired. The problem arose from the fact that one of two valves whose job it is to make sure that the air pressure in the passenger compartment is not too great, failed. The suspect valve was removed and replaced with a parallel valve from the shuttle Atlantis. Another round of testing was successfully completed last night and no leaks were detected.
