The search committee of Tel Aviv University recommends Prof. Yosef Klifter for the next president

Prof. Clifter is a world-renowned chemist and chairman of the National Science Foundation. The appointment should receive the approval of the senior academic staff and the executive committee

After examining a large number of candidates, the special search committee, established at Tel Aviv University, headed by the chair of the executive committee, Dr. Liora Meridor, is expected to recommend to the university senate and the executive committee the appointment of Prof. Yosef Klifter as the next president of the university.

Prof. Clifter, a world-renowned expert in chemistry, has served since 2002 as the chairman of the board of the National Science Foundation, the central body that supports research in the State of Israel.

Prof. Clifter, born in Israel, wrote his doctoral thesis at the time at Tel Aviv University under the guidance of the renowned chemistry professor Yehoshua Yurtner. After completing his post-doctorate at the American MIT University and after teaching for several years at academic institutions abroad, in 1987 Prof. Clafter returned to Israel and joined the faculty of Tel Aviv University. Prof. Clifter won a long series of important awards including the prestigious Rothschild Prize for Chemistry, the Israel Chemical Society Prize and the Weizmann Prize for Science.

The search committee, led by the chairman of the executive committee, Dr. Liora Meridor, also appointed Prof. Hanoch Gutfreund, former president of the Hebrew University, Prof. Boleslav (Bulk) Goldman, former member of the Faculty of Medicine of Tel Aviv University, Prof. Adina Beriman from the faculty for life sciences at Tel Aviv University. Prof. Hana Wirt-Nesher - from the Faculty of Humanities in Tel Aviv, Prof. Ron Shamir - from the Faculty of Exact Sciences at Tel Aviv University Ran Karol - former head of the Budget Division at the Treasury and member of the Executive Committee of Tel Aviv University, Alfred Akirov - businessman and member of the Executive Committee and member The trustees of Tel Aviv University and David Kolitz - a member of the university's board of trustees.

According to the university's regulations, the name of the candidate proposed by the search committee will be put to a secret vote before the Senate, which is made up of full professors who are members of the university's faculty. The final decision regarding the appointment will be made following a vote that will be held among the members of the Executive Committee.

Prof. Clifter is supposed to replace Prof. Zvi Galil, who resigned from his position last June due to dissatisfaction of the Executive Committee with his position.

  1. He is not a special personality and once again he will be just like Zvi Galil. We need to elect a president who is a special personality and not just a mediocre professor.
