The Israel Prize for Earth Science Research will be awarded to Professor Yehoshua Kolodani from the Hebrew University

Minister of Education Gideon Sa'ar recently announced that Prof. Yehoshua Kolodani from the Institute of Earth Sciences at the Hebrew University won the Israel Prize for Earth Science Research for the year XNUMX. The members of the award committee stated that Prof. Kolodani is appreciated for his contribution to research due to the methods he developed and their application around the world. In addition, he is noteworthy for his activity in educating and training a generation of students in leading academic and research institutions in Israel. "Prof. Kolodani is recognized as an innovator and leader in Israel and the world in the field of earth sciences and contributes assistance and advice to the Israeli professional community in his field," the award committee wrote.

Prof. Yehoshua Kolodani was born in the town of Pinsk in Poland (now Belarus), in 1936. In 1948, his family decided to immigrate to Israel and settle in the city of Haifa. He did his high school studies at the Reali School and then served in the Paratroopers during Operation Kadesh. He did his first and second degrees at the Hebrew University in the field of geology. In 1969 he received a doctorate from UCLA University in California in the United States. Upon his return to Israel, Prof. Kolodani shortly held key positions in the Department of Geology and later in the Institute of Earth Sciences.

During his tenure as Dean of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, he established the Center for Nanotechnology and Science, which is now considered particularly prestigious and includes forty research groups. Even after his retirement, Prof. Kolodani continues to guide students as part of their master's and doctoral theses and conduct courses at the Hebrew University. Prof. Kolodani is married to Amira and they have three children and eight grandchildren.
