 About 160 Israeli winners, in the third year of activity of the sixth framework program for research and development of the European Union, will take part in projects whose total value is about 780 million euros. Among these bodies are universities (Hebrew University 31 projects of which 5 as coordinators, Tel Aviv University 16 projects of which 1 as coordinators, Technion 14 projects, Ben-Gurion University 6 projects of which 1 as coordinators, Haifa University 4 projects, Bar Ilan University 5 projects and Emek Jezreel College a project 18), research institutions (the Weizmann Institute 2 projects of which 3 as coordinators, the Volcanic Institute 4 projects, the Sea and Lakes Research Institute 40 projects), and about XNUMX companies including large companies such as KLA-Tencor and Motorola, which also serve as coordinators, and the Aerospace Industry, smaller companies Such as Evogene and Compugene, which also serves as coordinators and institutions such as Migl - Upper Galilee Knowledge Center, hospitals including Hadassah, Sheba and the Tel Aviv Medical Center named after Soraski and more.

At a reception held on Monday, November 7.11.2005, XNUMX at the residence of Ambassador Ramiro Cibrian Ozel, Head of the Delegation of the European Union Commission in Israel, to mark the end of the third year of activity of the Sixth Framework Program, a certificate was awarded on behalf of ISERD - the Israeli administration for the Framework Program, operating from the Office of the Chief Scientist at the Ministry of Industry Trade and Employment (TMAT), to the representatives of the winning bodies.

Dr. Eli Ofer, the chief scientist at the Ministry of Science and Technology, insisted on the contribution of Israel's success in the framework program to Israeli industry, which is mainly measured by the availability of large-scale research results and not by the amounts of grants, "Israel is doing everything it can to maintain its competitive position in technology, research and development and to allow Israel access and a significant presence in Europe." Opar emphasized.
"The framework program is based on cooperation between industry and academia and thus the leverage." added Marcel Staun, CEO of ISERD.

Following the Israeli government's decision, informal talks are about to begin these days with the European Commission on Israel's participation in the Seventh Framework Program.
In this context, Ambassador Ramiro Cibrian Ozel, head of the European Commission's delegation in Israel, expressed hope that the talks would be successful and that "the European Union and Israel will continue together on the path of fruitful cooperation that they started in 1996 when Israel joined the Fourth Framework Program."
