Prof. Yitzhak Ben Israel
Prof. Yitzhak Ben Israel

happy holiday sir, thank you for agreeing to talk to us.
Happy Holidays to you and the entire nation of Israel.

The obvious question to be the first is in your field of expertise: What is our situation in the face of the threat of Iran's nuclear bomb? Due to the crisis in which the country has fallen in front of the world, is it left to face the threat alone?

First of all, we will note that we did not "fall into" a crisis in front of the world, but manipulated ourselves with a lack of talent for this crisis. Unfortunately, we have a right-wing government with two left hands. The crisis certainly makes it difficult to mobilize support in the world against Iran, but despite this I do not believe that we will be left alone. A nuclear Iran is a danger to the peace of the entire world and this is understood today by the leaders of the free world. That is why I believe that in the end Iran will not have a bomb.

Are additional strategic threats visible on the horizon for the State of Israel?

of course. Iran's influence on Syria and Hezbollah create a new "axis of evil" that we must be aware of, and we must not forget the Palestinian arena in general and Hamas in Gaza in particular.

In recent years we have witnessed a significant development in the space industry in Israel, both defense and civil, in the research and development of satellites. The proof of this significant development is the arrival of the chairman of NASA to visit Israel. How do you define the state of space in Israel at the moment? And what are the technological and other challenges facing the space agency in the coming decade?

According to a ranking made in the USA, Israel is today ranked seventh-eighth in the world in terms of the scope of occupation in space (absolutely) and in second-third place in terms of technological innovation in space. An amazing industrial infrastructure has been built here and with small investments it is possible to leverage it and turn the space industry in Israel into a major export branch with sales of several billion dollars a year. These days, work is being carried out by a team established at the initiative of the President of the State and with the support of the Prime Minister to define the goals, the plan and the means required for this.

How will US President Barack Obama's decision to cancel the flight to the moon and change NASA's budget, while transferring some of the activities to the private market, affect the Israeli space industry and the space industry in general?

The impact on us will be marginal only because we are not involved in manned space flights.

Does the State of Israel have a defined space policy?

The country has a space agency that has set goals and a vision, which include, for example, reaching fifth place in the world in the scope of the space industry and positioning us at the forefront of technological knowledge in the field of microsatellites. However, unfortunately there is still no national space policy, and this is exactly the goal of the team mentioned above. I hope that after the approval of the work by the Prime Minister, the situation will change.

Why does the State of Israel only have a military space program and no civilian space program?

We are a small country with few resources. Therefore, it is only natural that our first steps in space were made only in those areas that are vital to our existence, that is - the security space. However, the infrastructure that has been built is not painted in war colors. The same satellite technology can be used once to photograph targets of security value, and a second time to monitor contamination on Earth for the benefit of the environment or agriculture.

Prof. Ben Israel the higher education system is currently defined as "crumbling". Do you agree with this definition? Is there a solution to this crisis on the horizon, and if so, what is it?

Everything that we have built here in the country, starting with the military capacity and ending with welfare, is built on the cultivation of an educated and high-quality workforce. There is no system that is as important to the country as the education system in general and higher education in particular. The current crisis stems from a narrow "economic" view of the system and cuts that are not justified. I believe that solutions in the spirit of Professor Trachtenberg's proposal, the head of the HOT, will be able to lead the system to a solution and an exit from the crisis. It is in our soul.

Prof. Ben Israel, thank you for the time you devoted to us.

Thank you and again, Happy holiday to everyone.

Thank you sir and happy spring holiday.

  1. "That's why I believe that in the end Iran will not have a bomb"

    - This laconic statement is no less vague than the Israeli nuclear policy. She shoots in all directions and possibilities.

I am very afraid that Obama will not succeed in creating effective pressure on the Iranians - they are not a rational partner but a sect of believers in the return of the Mahdi in the process of a redemptive catastrophe. Meanwhile the clock is ticking, the centrifuges are channeling and multiplying and the Iranian bomb is becoming something very realistic within a year, maybe a little more or a little less.

Do not be surprised if Israel has no choice but to attack in order to destroy and destroy nuclear installations, and it is not impossible that even non-conventional weapons (tactical only - kiloton bombs) will be used following the first conventional bomb (the shaft created by the permitted bomb prevents the distribution of most of the fallout created by the bomb the second).
I wish this nightmare vision would not happen, but the reality sometimes exceeds all imagination, especially when it has to do with Jews. And precisely on Holocaust Day (today) things seem less imaginary than the rest of the year...

  2. Happy holiday !

To all the dear commenters, I don't think that any of you are at any senior level in the Israeli security system
And if that was the case, you would be at a senior level, not like General Ben Israel, of course
which is funded by the special issues
That's why I tell you that thanks to people like Ben Yisrael and many below him
    We sleep quietly
And hello to all those who watch over us day and night, well done for the article
And that we will be privileged to see a man like Ben Yisrael in the position of Minister of Defense
Or Prime Minister Happy holiday to you all
    Dr. Moran Baron

  3. To the anonymous idiot. Dumb, maybe stop repeating the mantra "end the occupation" "aspiration for peace" and "peace process". Are we to blame for not reaching "peace" with the Palestinians? After all, even if we return all, I mean return all territories, including Jerusalem, the Palestinians still want the "right of return" which means the elimination of the only Jewish state. And also the Arab countries that keep their Palestinian "brothers" as refugees, who have the same religion, language, culture and customs, without rights and without citizenship, repeat and emphasize
That they will never accept them as citizens in their countries (and we are talking about 3-4 million "refugees". So tell me, idiot, what else do we need to do to promote this damned "process"?
And in general, what are you doing here - don't you belong among rioters and demonstrators in Bil'in?

  4. If all this money you invest in "super advanced military space technologies that are in the first places in the world", you would instead invest it in trying to resolve the conflict and end the occupation, maybe our lives would improve by several orders of magnitude. Sustainable peace contributes much more to security than the ability to photograph tube launchers in high resolution.
The end of the occupation will lead to the stabilization of relations with the Muslim world, and of course a solution to the various diplomatic crises that Israel is constantly entering into. In Israel they don't understand this, they prefer to continue to arm themselves and kill themselves in front of everyone with the big eggs, instead of solving the root of the problem.

  5. 'Moadim for happiness' - unfortunately my father is right! The State of Israel may/is expected to find itself alone in the face of a nuclear Iran, and then our 'nuclear-ambiguity' advantage will lose all value!!..("All the players are showing their cards...).

Neutralizing the Israeli threat (real or fake..) changes the whole 'balance of terror' in the Middle East region and beyond!!
President Obama (likening himself to President F. D. Roosevelt-1936-44), will not succeed in building an alliance against Iran that will stop
Building a bomb (nuclear and sub-nuclear...) and with all due respect to Prof.' J. Ben-Yisrael "There are no contradictions from talk"!!!
    And meanwhile Ahmadinejad continues his...

  6. Don't believe a word of Ben Israel's words, the branch he belonged to in the Air Force estimated before the first Gulf War that no Iraqi Scud missile would reach Israel.

    And the sequel is known.

  7. Prof. Ben Israel's assumption is that it is in the interest of all Western countries to prevent a nuclear Iran that will succeed.
And it makes pragmatic sense. But I foresee tremendous distress for Israel because it will be the "carrot" in the equation of interests.
Alternatively, if Iran goes nuclear, Israel will benefit greatly from the status of an expert interceptor, both from the location half way to the west and from the launch site, and from the point of view of its technological ability and existential determination.
The threat to Israel will be neutralized on the basis of a balance of terror.
The neutralization will be neutralized by sponsor bodies from Lebanon, Syria, Gaza and possibly also from the West Bank that have the potential to harm.
The greatest danger to Israel is a conflict (contrary policy) with the USA. And it's topical now.

  8. And my father, don't worry, he is more aware of the situation than you are, with no intention of harming, and if he is not worried, then we probably have nothing to worry about either.
    And love him

  9. There is someone to rely on. Hidd Farnf Ben Yisrael, with God's help we will see you as the next prime minister
as a most worthy alternative to all politicians

  10. He did not explain how he reached the opposite conclusion from all the Western intelligence agencies
American pressure on us is a direct result of a nuclear Iran in the near future,
And it is as nothing as the pressure that will be as a result of a nuclear Iran in 2012-2014
As a result, there will be a nuclear spill aimed at Hezbollah in 2015
And a nuclear Hamas in 2017, this will cause the system of pressures on Egypt and Saudi Arabia to increase as well.
The race will not stop here, add to this Iranian progress on the one hand for plutonium suitcase bombs for terrorists and on the other hand for fusion bombs that can destroy not only a city but a country in one explosion.
