The summer 2017 matriculation exam in mathematics is just around the corner and close to 160,000 3th and 4th grade students are expected to take it (in the scope of 5, 34,664 and 5 units). This figure indicates an increase of about 4% compared to the previous summer, in which 87,500 students were tested. The Ministry of Education stated that this is a very significant achievement that results from a lot of hard work by the administrators, teachers and students. Along with the examinees at the increased level of 3 units, about XNUMX students of XNUMX units will be tested as well as XNUMX students at the level of XNUMX study units.

The current school year was accompanied by the national program to strengthen mathematics studies and it included a large series of budgetary investments and actions to increase the number of students approaching 5 units. For the next school year, the Ministry of Education will expand the program to the level of 3 and 4 study units.

The math program included this year:

• Within two years (160 and 5) about XNUMX new majors were opened for XNUMX math units, in schools where mathematics was not taught before at the level of 5 units. This move is part of the ministry's policy to promote equal opportunities. As part of the program, most of the new trends were opened in the periphery, with an emphasis on the Arab, Bedouin and ultra-Orthodox sectors.
• The Ministry of Education granted a special budget of about 3,000 study hours For the benefit of reinforcement and learning in small groups and the opening of new study groups of 5 students in mathematics.
• Budgetary supplements for studying in small groups: 53 schools, with an emphasis on the periphery, received budget increases this year for learning in small groups and strengthening outstanding students of 3 units with the aim of moving them to 44 units.
• Reinforcement for XNUMXth graders: The Ministry of Education budgeted 3,000 hours of reinforcement for 5th grade students in order to help the students integrate next year (being in XNUMXth grade) at the level of XNUMX students.
• Mathematics teaching certificate students in universities: 268 students began this year the training in universities for teaching mathematics at the level of 5 units, compared to only 73 students who began the training in XNUMX.
