The forecast is published as part of IBM's annual update of the "five by five" list: five innovative technologies that are expected to change our lives in the next five years.

This year, the forecast focuses on innovations that will shape the image of the cities of the future: buildings that know how to identify systems that are on the verge of failure and will call maintenance personnel to deal with problems - even before they actually occur, sensors that will warn of fires even before residents are aware of them and call the fire brigade and emergency services, water and sewage systems The smart ones that filter and recycle water and so on.

Every year, 60 million people around the world move to live in cities. The global urban population is expected to double by 2050 - posing new challenges to municipal authorities in particular, and to public systems in general.

According to experts' predictions, cities will continue to be growth hotbeds for infectious diseases due to the population density that characterizes them. According to IBM's forecast, in the future health system managers will be able to better know how these epidemics and diseases spread and even predict which neighborhoods will be the next to suffer from high morbidity rates in the flu, for example. The "immune system" of cities will rely on medical information systems, central management of medical files, advanced systems for mapping and managing geographic information, and data mining systems, which know how to identify patterns of spread of diseases.

IBM also predicts that sensors that will be integrated into buildings will allow them to react and function as if they were living beings. For example, it will be possible to save on the emission of carbon pollutants thanks to more efficient management of the air conditioning systems.

BMW also predicts the appearance of new electric battery technology for vehicles, which will make it possible to extend the time between charges. Smart electrical grids will help to charge private vehicles and buses while expanding the use of renewable energies such as wind energy.

Smarter systems will enable the optimization of water supply and energy savings. Smarter water systems will allow a reduction of up to 50% in the waste of the benign water. New sewage systems will not only prevent contamination of water sources - but will purify the wastewater to a level that can be reused and even drinkable. Advanced purification technologies will enable water recycling and reuse at the local level - while saving up to 20% in the energy required to transport water to and from purification sites.

According to IBM's forecast, the preparation for emergency situations, disasters and handling of crime, is expected to be more effective than ever, thanks to the combination of monitoring and data collection technologies, and an effective communication system between the people in the field and between the police and emergency service centers.

  1. To Isaac, your prediction sounds much more serious, and the amazing thing is that you built it without all the IBM budgets. By the way, you forgot the replacement of the courts with Torah law.

  2. Reverse forecast: maybe the truth is in the middle
Wars over natural resources, Islam's takeover of Europe in a democratic way, a revolution in robotics that will perhaps grow a human successor race and perhaps improved soldiers. Last: carrying the results of the liquidation sale that is currently being carried out in the State of Israel in the fields of: high/bio-tech, government, desalination and electricity, education. Every start-up succeeds in exiting (there is no need for another Teva company), cancellation of all employee rights whatsoever, all development for India, Teva that emphasized a generic falling before an Indian company, selling all military developments to dubious countries who will transfer them to enemy countries. In each term, the education plan of the previous minister will be canceled in favor of a new and fresh start. The Sea Canal that is currently being built on the Jordanian side, due to the opposition of the Ofer brothers - financed by the European Bank. Lack of desalination plants due to the refusal of the water administration to establish desalination plants on a free initiative and to receive wastewater from the electricity company. 1E6 cubic meters per year are pumped in 20 desalination plants. Non-participation of the Israeli Electricity Administration in the European connection project that spread to the Near Middle East and North Africa. Failure to receive grants for the construction of solar and wind plants - creating a gap of 30 years in technology similar to the one that exists in the breakaway communist bloc. The rise of illusory messianic bodies for the third time and the arrival of the war of Gog and Magog initiated by them. Phenomenal success of the Big Brother program.

  3. These are not the same people who did not think that the private consumer would have anything to do with more than 24 bytes of memory...

  4. If more than two things on the list come to Israel in the next five years, I will change my nickname to a jar.
Mainly in regards to bureaucracy and monitoring.
And my father, thank you for not calling it IBM's "vision". There was nothing really innovative here that hasn't been talked about for several years or that we saw in Sim City 2000.
