The Aerospace Industry will lead a technological development project of the European Union

The scope of the project is 19.2 million dollars, of which IAI received 1.7 million dollars

At a conference of the European community held a few days ago in Hamburg, Germany, the SPEEDS (Speculative and Exploratory Design in Systems Engineering) project was launched, in which the IAA is a leading partner.

The project, which will last about 3 years, is budgeted by the European Union as part of the 6th plan for research and development, and the scope is $19.2 million. The aerospace industry's share reaches $1.7 million. Other partners in the project, companies such as: Airbus, DaimlerChrysler, Bosch, Saab, Astral and more.

The SPEEDS project deals with the characterization and implementation of systems development processes, in order to bring significant savings in both time and development costs. It is about the development of systems such as: satellites, radars, drones and sophisticated electronic systems.
The goals set to achieve the goals are expressed in the shortening of the development, testing and integration times of the systems.

Dr. Michael Winokur, from the R&D organization at the TAA, will serve as the project's technological manager. Airbus Germany is responsible for administrative coordination.

From the aerospace industry, a number of factories are partners in SPEEDS: the Mabat-Hell factory, the UAV factory, the Lahav factory together with the R&D organization - Computer Embedded Systems Administration.

Elta Systems will provide Ben Gurion Airport with a perimeter defense system
Elta Systems Ltd., a division and subsidiary of the Aerospace Industry, will provide Ben Gurion Airport with a perimeter protection system, as part of a security project by the Airports Authority.

The aforementioned perimeter defense system is required to work around the clock and in all weather conditions. The system includes motion detection radars, electro-optical day-night cameras and an advanced security system.

The system is planned to be operational starting in November 2006. Until that time, and as an interim solution, Elta has installed an alternative airport protection system in Bulgaria, which, among other things, was purchased by a foreign country.

The interim solution includes a medium-range motion detection radar and a stabilized electro-optical system for day and night vision produced by the Aerospace Industry's TMM plant, as well as an automatic SHOB system.
Elta's system was selected by the Israel Airports Authority based on the capacity and performance demonstrated as well as the reputation that Elta has earned in the field of Homeland Security systems.
