Physicist Stephen Hawking is in serious condition, although his condition improved yesterday after he was rushed to hospital due to chest pains.
The University of Cambridge says that Hawking underwent surgery on Monday at Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridge. The university spokesman said that the 67-year-old scientist, who suffers from problems with the nerves responsible for his motor function, is now in a satisfactory condition.
Professor Hawking, author of A Brief History of Time worked at Cambridge University for over 30 years. For decades he has been confined to a wheelchair and uses a computer to speak. He flew to the United States at the end of February to serve as a guest lecturer at the California Institute of Technology, but he was not feeling well and canceled a planned lecture on April 6 at the University of Arizona due to his illness.
On Saturday he was flown to the UK and was hospitalized on Monday at the hospital in Cambridge.
Prof. Hawking developed the symptoms of ALS when he was a student in the sixties, and he is one of the oldest survivors of this disease.

  1. I would like to point out that my father has also been suffering from ALS for over 22 years
As far as I know, he is the oldest patient in Israel

  2. It reminds me of the saying that a person who has been careful all his life to do only healthy things feels quite stupid when one day he finds himself in the hospital dying of... nothing

  3. To Moran
FYI, even healthy people eventually die when the involuntary muscles stop working.
I wish you and me a long life
    good week

  4. How do you end up dying from the disease? In the end, involuntary muscles also stop working?
    (heart, lungs?)

  5. Many wishes for health..even though he doesn't need it because he is the best survivor in the world of difficulties..but such a response will be defined as support for such a matter-of-fact and famous scientist (Stephen Hawking).

  6. opira,

I bet the source of the error is the proximity of the letters K, L on the keyboard. Slight miss with the finger.
All that remains is to wish Prof. Hawking health.

  7. how sad. I really hope he gets over it. If not it will be the end of the Hawking era.

Hawking is the most recognized scientist in the world today. At the time I came across a survey which claimed that the majority (or at least a very high percentage) of people in the UK could not avenge the name of even one living scientist with the exception of Hawking.

His death will be a great loss to the world of science. I hope that despite everything he gets through it safely.

  8. Stephen Hawking is sick with ALS, and he is the oldest survivor of the disease with a lifespan of about 2-6 years from the diagnosis of the disease.

  9. Sad to hear, I hope he gets over it. Stephen Hawking has contributed a lot to humanity.
