For the last time, the doors between the space shuttle and the International Space Station were closed

The space shuttle Atlantis is currently making its way back to Earth for an expected landing on Thursday at 12:56 p.m. (Israel time).

After a particularly solemn farewell ceremony held by the crew of the space shuttle Atlantis on mission STS-135 and the members of the 28th crew of the International Space Station, the doors between any space shuttle and the International Space Station were definitely closed for the last time.

The event, which took place today (Sunday) at 17:28 Israel time, concluded a joint operation that lasted seven days, 21 hours and 41 minutes.

The team continued preparations for the separation between the two spacecraft expected for Tuesday morning US time.

Earlier, the Rafale module was returned to the cargo deck of Atlantis by the station's robotic arm Canadarm2. The module that brought with it equipment, spare parts, food and additional charges to the space station that would allow it to function properly for at least a year, was filled with experiments that were returned to Earth, including Israeli experiments.

Israeli biomedical research on the International Space Station will be transferred today to the Atlantis shuttle for its return to Earth
