On Friday, September 13, Comet Swan became Comet Arabia. Comets were once thought to be harbingers of bad news, but to observe this comet, you will need to bring your luck from home and of course a telescope.
The comet is invisible to the naked eye but can be seen following the curve of the big cart handle.
Tony Cook, an astronomy enthusiast from Leeds, UK, said the comet was bright enough to see its pale green tail. It's worth standing up for him. The photograph is the result of a four-minute exposure of Comet Sven by Cook on September 30.
The comet, also known as C/2006, was seen by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory's Small Body Search Observatory. These days the comet is in the northwest after sunset.
