The gifted students will earn more in their matriculation than the normal students

This is according to a new study conducted at the University of Haifa that examined the achievements of gifted people in old age

People who were diagnosed as gifted in elementary school and studied in a special class for the gifted earned more in their matriculation than students who studied in a regular class, according to a study conducted at the University of Haifa and presented at a conference held today (Monday) on the subject of gifted education in Israel.

In a study presented by Prof. Baruch Nebo from the Department of Psychology at the University of Haifa, graduates of two gifted classes who graduated in the 80s and are now 35-40 years old were examined, one from a school in Haifa and the other from a school in Petah Tikva. The control group included students from the same school and from the same age group who studied in regular classes. The two groups - the gifted and the control - were from the same socio-economic background.

As mentioned, the study examined whether there are differences in the level of wages between the groups. The subjects could choose between seven different salary levels, with each level representing a range of earnings in shekels. The findings show that the students of the gifted classes earned an average of 4.38, while the non-gifted earned an average of 3.35.

According to Prof. Nevo, the assumption of the study was that the high wage differences between men and women would disappear or be significantly reduced in the gifted group, but the data showed that even giftedness cannot affect the inequality in this area. While the gifted men earned an average of 5 salary levels, the gifted women earned an average of 3.5 salary levels. A similar gap was also recorded among the non-gifted, with the men earning an average of 4.28 salary levels and the women earning an average of 2.92 salary levels.
"It is important to emphasize that in our analysis we also took into account job scope, so the fact that on average more women work in part-time jobs did not affect the results. Even gifted women earn less than men in an absolute manner," noted Prof. Nevo.

The study also examined the satisfaction in the occupational, family and personal aspect and it became clear that there are no differences between the groups. Another place where no differences were found is in the academic education for second and third degrees. According to Prof. Nevo, here too the findings were surprising, but as far as the PhD is concerned, it may still be too early to determine.

A place where differences were found is in the field of military service. The students of the gifted classes finished their service with higher ranks, which indicates that more gifted people went on to officer positions, and were awarded more awards or signals during their service.

And what do the gifted themselves think about the school period? The positive points that emerged from the study are that studying in a homogeneous class brought them together with other gifted children, that the studies made them like school and encouraged them to set a high bar for themselves. The negative points are the social disconnection from the friends in the neighborhood and the feeling of competition and pressure to achieve. From this it is perhaps possible to understand why 79% of the gifted answered that they were very satisfied with their studies, but only 67.4% would also send their children, if they were diagnosed as gifted, to a special class.

lol are you serious?? "It has been proven that IQ test scores are not proportionally adjusted to each other. That is, the difference between 140 and 150 is fundamentally different from the difference between 80 and 90"

    well, dah!

Have you heard of a gauss bell?

  2. Year:
First of all - you completely missed the point.
The story of the runners from Jamaica was a parable to illustrate an idea.
The story is true, but I don't intend to argue with you about it. I don't know where you got the information about the drugs and hormones and I don't care either. Whoever is in charge of investigating the matter did not find drugs and voodoo techniques do not interest me.

I did not understand your question about the genetic profile of Jews.

  3. Machal, I was surprised to find your claims that do not meet real scientific criteria.
The fast runners from Jamaica are very few, and most if not all of them eat hormones and other chemicals and can be used neither as a population sample nor as a demonstration of any value for questioning genetics.
And regarding the intelligence of Jews, what is the genetic profile of Jews, maybe you know.

  4. Chan - I also suspect that the usefulness of gifted classes is questionable. Not only in future salary levels but also in academic achievements, initiative and life skills. But it is very easy to check this, by, as mentioned, the Holocaust between homogeneous groups that were "paved" in different directions. Who picks up the glove?!

  5. These gifted children who go to the gifted class are the ones who are harmed, in areas far beyond
"Salary" at work. These children simply have a great social disadvantage that only grows over time..
It won't help anything to grow up in an environment of ordinary children (referring to mixing with the "reckless" and the "wise" of the class) and going through the whole experience of the "acceptable and unacceptable" including all integrations adds a lot to your life wisdom, as well as to the joys of life.. children In the gifted class, they do the 5 math units in the XNUMXth grade and many other matriculations... so much stress and for what? Earn two years at most? Get along in the army in a good place? People can get stuck on a math problem for years and get nowhere, where is everyone rushing to all of a sudden? A sane child in a "normal" class can just try and live well, and I mean go out, drink, go to parties... As long as the child is sane and self-aware, there is nothing wrong with that, on the contrary, he gains experience and has fun instead of being stuck at home all day with notebooks because of his parents who push him to this and are unaware of the enormous damage they cause the child socially..
If the child is gifted, he will use himself in life after school.
These gifted children have educational and behavior problems, they are quite strange on the face of it they look like his.. and yes I am deliberately generalizing and talking about the majority..
In short, my opinion is that the tracks do more damage, a gifted child will open the internet, books, and learn more on his own.. and most importantly in a regular class he will develop his social ability.. because there is nothing to do with both intelligence and "street" wisdom, that is, life wisdom, these are two things important that should come together.

  6. There is a wonderful and historical Israeli database, and it is amazing that both the researchers and the commenters here ignore it. For decades, a group of gifted students in Israel have been referred to special classrooms where huge capital is invested and a lot of thought is put into the curriculum. Some of the gifted (their parents) choose to stay in the regular schools. One can easily compare the achievements of the gifted in which special investment was made and gifted children who remained in regular education and gain many insights regarding the effectiveness of the special investment. No one lifts the glove! Instead, they compare gifted graduates with ordinary students and discover that the salary level is biased towards the gifted. Come on, research the obvious!

  7. Dreamer:
I hope you recognize that my right to cite the results of serious studies is at least equal to your right to present your unsubstantiated musings.
Indeed - the previous details should be referred to, as you mentioned, and indeed - the studies do so so that there was no point in your words.
Among other things, identical twins who were separated in childhood were compared to different families and a higher correlation was found between them (much!) than that found between non-identical twins who grew up in the same family.

Education has an effect, as I said, but the genetic data is undoubtedly important.

There is a postmodernist tendency to ignore the genetic differences between people when it comes to intelligence.
No one has a problem with Jamaicans having a genetic advantage as fast runners and no one hesitates to talk about the types of diseases that are most common in certain population types.
But - when it comes to intelligence - hes not to mention!
It is forbidden to talk about the fact that men's mathematical abilities are better than women's.
It is also forbidden (although a little less) to talk about the fact that women's achievements in vocabulary tests are higher.
One must not believe the findings of studies that show that on average Jews are more intelligent than others.
It's simply not allowed because it's not politically correct and has nothing to do with the findings.

There is also a clear connection between IQ and achievements in studies, work and earnings, but some people choose to ignore this as well.
Of course, educational institutions and workplaces that face the real challenge and early diagnosis is important to them not only for living room conversations and talkbacks, continue to base themselves on psychometric tests of all kinds.

Reservists are tested in officer tests even before they are accepted into the reserve.
The fact that most of them eventually become officers is due to the fact that the army has concluded that they are more suitable for officership than others. It is not an automatic route and the army does not do this to harm itself.

  8. Defining the level of intelligence in the Western world is one of the biggest bluffs of the 21st century. Wisdom or genius is not measured by IQ tests at all, but what is measured is the ability to pass a stupid knowledge test (for which those gifted people have prepared all their lives, and made it the basis of their lives). (A side note: it has been proven that IQ test scores are not proportionally adjusted to each other. That is, the difference between 140 and 150 is fundamentally different from the difference between 80 and 90, meaning that the higher the numbers, the less significant they are in the differences in "intelligence level".)
In addition, the claim that wisdom or genius is genetic is debunked. Apart from the fact that the method of measuring wisdom or genius is incorrect (understanding English, mathematics and language are not mandatory for human wisdom), it is important to emphasize that no genetic link to wisdom has been found. Although Mr. Michael Rothschild went to the trouble of writing to us that high intelligence originates in genes, and even many tests have been found, it must be remembered that the way in which that intelligence is measured is wrong, and that all the existing details must be taken into account (is every 'gifted' person born to a pair of 'gifted' parents, is every person gifted will give birth to gifted children?). But what is more important, is that wisdom is not genetic, and that every person can 'improve', get a high score in any exam, understand deeply in any field.

Of course, among reservists, and everyone who is in the elite intelligence units (Talfis, etc.) there are many more officers than in the other units. The admission conditions for these units are high grades in school -> gifted.

  9. light:
I definitely support classes for the gifted.
I think it allows them to take advantage of their natural talent and go faster and further.
In general - I think that education is a good thing and the better the education is....the better 🙂
In my opinion, for talented students, the first 12 years of schooling are almost completely wasted. In the first year at university (at least in the exact sciences) you learn more than you did in all the previous 12 years, and this year is also easy for those who are gifted with natural talent.
I also think like you that the grouping idea is a good idea.
I wrote my previous response only to illuminate the fact that education is not everything - as could be understood from some of the responses.
In fact - the fact that the kindergartens are important is the justification behind the gifted classes and the groupings because otherwise - if everything was in education - there would not be differences that justify groups and special classes.

  10. Michael,
I did not understand your words whether you support classes for the gifted or not. In my opinion, it is useful to group many subjects, as is done in English and mathematics - there should also be groupings for history, literature, etc. As the study group is more homogeneous in its level, the weak students do not stay late and the strong ones do not get bored.

  11. The claim that everything is in education is simply not true.
The origin of high intelligence is genetic and this has been proven in many tests (including on identical twins raised in different families).
    Motivation also has genetic components.
It is clear that education contributes to motivation and allows a person to realize his intelligence potential, but that everything in education is complete nonsense.
I suggest you read "Father, Son and Garden" by Matt Ridley.

  12. But again I raise the more interesting question - are the special classes for the gifted effective? In other words, did the achievements of the gifted in a special track advance them in the holocaust to the gifted in the normal track?

  13. Guy, you are so right. feel similar. If there is no push for excellence it will not come by itself.
I've always been good and it comes easily without special effort, so even now that I'm older (36) I don't feel like making an effort. But what, life obliges you to make an effort, so I find myself failing in my maturity due to a lack of desire to make an effort. I want everything to come as easily as before...

  14. Guy, you are so right. feel similar. If there is no push for excellence it will not come by itself.
I've always been good and it comes easily without much effort, so even now that I'm older (36) I don't feel like making an effort. But what, life obliges you to make an effort, so I find myself failing in my maturity due to a lack of desire to make an effort. As usual, I want everything to come easily...

  15. I have an IQ of 148 (according to a serious institute, not through some internet test) and I still have no motivation for anything, reinforces my 2nd point, it's all in education, being told I was a genius in the third grade only reinforced to me that I don't need to do anything Which involves effort, so to this day I give up when it's hard for me, IQ is not enough, it's a shame they didn't explain it to my parents.

  16. Was the holocaust between gifted children who remained in regular classes, and gifted children who were referred to gifted classes?

  17. It's not bad. The difference between a gifted and an ordinary child with intelligence is a "pushing" family, so it is not surprising that people who were raised to achieve will be more successful than children who were not raised. The fact that gifted children get the same degrees etc. just shows that intellectually they have no advantage over the normal children, who over the years narrow the distance.

  18. How many of the gifted go to the reserve? And how many of the regulars?
This can easily explain the difference in ranks, every soldier is an officer...
