At the General Assembly of the International Astronautical Federation, which took place this morning in Beijing, China, the Fisher Institute for Strategic Air and Space Research was accepted as a member of the International Astronautical Federation, a very important organization established in 1951 that unites space agencies, research and academic institutions, space industries and non-governmental organizations.

Tal Inbar, head of the Space Research Center at the Fisher Institute, said that "the joining of another Israeli body to the International Federation for Astronautics is of great importance. The world of space is global, and organizations like the Fisher Institute, which want to promote international collaborations, must enter the world arena."

The International Federation for Astronautics counts more than 250 bodies and organizations, and in addition to the new Israeli entrant, members of the Israel Space Agency, the Israel Aerospace Industries and the Rafael Company.

"In order to strengthen Israel's position in the world in the fields of space, it is important to operate in a wide range of activities," said Inbar. "The International Federation for Astronautics is one of them, along with the UN's space activities, participation in important and prestigious conferences, signing of interstate agreements for cooperation in space - and this is a partial list.

Inbar noted that the Fisher Institute has maintained ties with the Federation for years, and the last two space conferences were attended by senior representatives from the Federation - two CEOs and its former president, Professor Bernadette Feuerbacher, who also chaired the science session at the last Ilan Ramon conference. "The desire to be part of the International Federation for Astronautics has been going on for many years, and recently the conditions for this have been ripe. Last January, as part of the Ilan Ramon International Space Conference, together with the Space Agency and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Space, we hosted the outgoing president of the Federation and the CEO, and submitted the documents to join as full members of this prestigious and highly influential organization. I am happy to close the circle, and receive on behalf of the institute the confirmation of our joining the federation", concluded Inbar.

Along with the Fisher Institute, several other bodies were accepted into the federation, including the Iranian Space Agency.

Inbar will also report to the science website from the conference.

  1. I did not understand the complaint why the Fisher Institute is needed if there is the Israeli Space Agency. Why is the Hebrew University required if there is the Council for Higher Education? It's about the same. These are entities that do completely different things in the same sector.

  2. There is no mention of Tal Inbar's position on the institute's website.
There is also no information about him on the net except that he wrote, unless you got permission in LINKED IN from Tal himself.
What is his education, what is his life experience along the way, which make him worthy of a position at the institute. I do not mean the ones linked to the commanders of the Air Force for generations. I mean the skill and not the link.
How is the project progressing to launch an Israeli satellite to the moon?
Why is the Fisher Space Institute needed if there is the Israeli Space Agency. Are there any objections to the performance of the Israeli Space Agency? The article here did not receive even one response. If you are already sewing a suit for someone, shouldn't her practical record be shown?
