Third time ice cream: a third attempt to run the particle accelerator in Geneva at 7 tera electron volts was successful

The scientists managed to shoot two beams with a power of 7 tera electron volts. And thus opened a new period of research in physics to find fundamental particles and perhaps also the Higgs boson - the particle that gives us mass

Now it can be said that a milestone in physics has been set. The most powerful particle accelerator ever began its mission at the highest power to date, with the aim of understanding the fundamental questions of matter and in particular why matter has mass. For this task, two proton beams with a power of 7 tera electron volts will collide and from this collision particles may be created that existed only shortly after the big bang.

Reporter "Voice of Israel" Itai Nevo, message on the Israel Broadcasting Authority website Because the head of the Israeli team at the European particle accelerator, Professor Giora Mickenberg from the Weizmann Institute, tells Kol Israel that the experiment conducted today in the accelerator is a great advance, and the Israeli components in the experiment functioned well.

Earlier this morning, two attempts to activate the Large Hadron Collider - the particle accelerator at the CERN facility - at full power failed. The managers of the facility reported that the first beam was lost on its way and missed the second beam, so the system must be rebooted.

For many months, the large hadron accelerator at CERN in Geneva has been operating at a power of 3.5 tera electron volts, the highest energy at which a particle accelerator has been operated so far. Preparations have begun to operate it at full power 7 tera electron volts (3.5 tera electron volts per beam), starting today , March 30.

"With two beams with a power of 3.5 tera electron volts we are on the way to the beginning of the physical program of LHC" explained the director of accelerators and technology at CERN, Steve Myers. "The preparation work in the last week was a lot - just the twinning between the beams is a complicated thing - like sending a needle from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean and making them collide in the middle of the road."

In recent weeks, CERN staff conducted experiments to test whether the detectors for protection against stray particles are working well, and whether the control systems are functioning. All of these need to be ready before collisions can begin.

It will take about three more years and a long downtime for renovations to be able to reach the maximum power - 7 tera electron volts in each beam.

  1. This Steve Myers is the brother of Austin "Danger" Powers. Roll it down all the stairs

  2. It's all nonsense, and yet it's moving.
Without persistence where are we, in the Higgs boson?
And what can he do in preparation for 21.12.2012. More movies?
Therefore contribute to the Almighty and be humane.

  3. I was probably misled by one of the news sites where I read that it was 7 tera electron volts in general - a figure that I knew was the maximum figure of the accelerator. But it turns out that it is 3.5 tera per beam, there is no meaning to the connection between the beams, so the meaning is that it is only half the power.
I fixed the mistake on the fly.

  4. With God's help, the Accelerator will destroy the earth and all the trainers in the religious and messianic fantasies

    I SHOWED THEM

  5. "It will take about three more years and a long downtime for renovations so that the maximum power can be reached - 7 tera electron volts in each beam"

I don't understand, before (knowing from noon) it was written that today they reached the maximum power of the accelerator, suddenly now it is written that this will happen only in 3 years? I don't understand anymore.

Also, this is a brand new booster that they just finished building! So what renovations are they talking about? What improvement? what are they talking about

  6. I read some of the comments here, and I can't help but think of one of the famous verses (and those who understand will understand): "We are all wise, we are all wise..." and so on. Gentlemen, a little more modesty, a little more down to earth. After all, one thing is clear: none of us, the readers, know anything for sure. We are allowed to speculate, worry, reassure, explain, only without the arrogance of those who supposedly know everything. So in a hurry...

  7. Listen to me, all you bunch of influencers. There is no such thing as the end of the world. Well, everyone here is affected by the stun like some shemale. Google it Google it Google it: there is no such thing as the end of the world

    Regarding A, that's a nice idea, I doubt it's true.

It seems that the panic over Bug 2000 was exaggerated, however, the feverish preparations for it for several years may have caused it to do nothing.
If there weren't those preparations, and he would come suddenly, maybe the catastrophe would indeed have happened.

    It's bullshit

I think you are right. The words "full strength" seem unnecessary to me. Avi?

  9. Hezi,
But on a certain website it was noted that scientists claimed that the accelerator could be dangerous...

  10. Foundation,

It can't even compromise the booster,
How can he endanger the earth?

The nonsense that is written in the media
    (without scientists making them wrong)
They are the proof of the decline of the level of science.

Remember the panic of "Bug 2000"?

  11. Happy and kosher holiday for everyone
I have read on various websites that say that if the experiment fails it could endanger the planet
Are the claims made about black holes on other sites true and when should the collisions in question take place...

  12. A. The origin of the phrase "Third time ice cream" is in the English phrase "Third time I scream".....
    B. The particles go astray and do not go astray.
    Other than that, good luck!

  13. 7 tera electron volts is not the maximum of the accelerator. The accelerator will reach 2013 tera volt in 14

  14. A collision of 7 tera electron volts was already recorded about a quarter of an hour ago.

  15. Sad - happy news, on the one hand it's really a shame that the first attempt was not successful yet, but on the other hand it's really nice to hear that the attempts to activate the accelerator at full power have already started!

I didn't think it would happen before mid 2010….

    Fingers crossed for them!
