Reimbursement of the expenses of the second astronaut who landed on the moon: 33 dollars

Upon his return, Buzz Aldrin filled out an expense reimbursement form with a request for reimbursement of fuel expenses between Houston and the Kennedy Space Center

Aren't even heroes like the Apollo astronauts exempt from paperwork?

46 years ago, Neil Armstrong and Edwin (Buzz) Aldrin became the first people to walk on the moon. It was an absolutely out-of-this-world experience, but when the Apollo 11 crew returned from the moon, they still had to deal with the aspect of the moon flight as a business trip.

Aldrin, who is very active on social media, recently published in a post and in several tweets on Twitter, little glimpses of the mission, including photographs of forms that he and his colleagues Armstrong and Michael Collins (who was waiting for them in the mother spacecraft) had to fill out after they arrived in Honolulu after the wet landing in the waters of the Pacific Ocean. Among these forms: a US customs form and a travel document that also includes an expense report.

Upon returning to the atmosphere, and of course to US soil, the astronauts were asked to declare their cargo - moon rocks and lunar dust samples - and to declare that none of them fell ill during the journey. Despite this, shortly after their landing they were placed in isolation to make sure they did not contract any disease on the moon.

Aldrin also claimed $33.31 for expenses he incurred on a round trip from Houston to the Kennedy Space Center to fly to the moon, and from the Pacific Ocean to Hawaii and back to Houston on a variety of government vehicles including spacecraft, planes and the USS Hornet. This is a reimbursement of expenses for the segments in which he traveled in his private vehicle. The amount probably indicates the low fuel prices on the eve of the oil crisis that broke out following the Yom Kippur War.

  1. Declare their cargo on the American customs form? It's probably a joke - if not, then the Americans are crazy, what about the fact that they put them in an isolation room? If you've seen the movie "Andromeda Seed" then you'll be smart and understand how dangerous it is to be exposed to that mysterious and deadly virus from space, right?
