The Executive Committee of the Technion convened an emergency meeting due to the lecturers' strike

"The continuation of the lecturers' strike could lead to the cancellation of the semester with devastating consequences for the Technion and the entire higher education system"

The Executive Committee of the Technion convened an emergency meeting to discuss the senior faculty strike and its consequences. The Chairman of the Executive Committee, Mr. Yoram Elster, pointed out the dire straits the Technion's management is in on the one hand and the students on the other hand, as a result of the lecturers' strike. He emphasized the helplessness of the Technion's executive committee, which is publicly responsible for the management of the Technion, in view of its inability to deal with the strike, because the matter is under the care of the treasury.
The Executive Committee of the Technion called on all those concerned to speed up their handling of the conflict and warned of the serious consequences of the continuation of the strike.
"The continuation of this strike, as well as the fear of further possible disruptions in the future - could lead to the cancellation of the semester, and thus devastating and irreversible consequences for the higher education system in general and the Technion in particular," stated the Technion's executive committee.

Your distress is clear to everyone and also to the lecturers, so it is clear that your words are said out of distress but out of a very partial understanding of the system.
The lecturers can go on hunger strike or anything else and it won't bother anyone. The lecturers are guilty of not wanting to rock the ship and therefore remained silent for a long time, but the students also joined in the demonstrations.
The managing committee of the Technion, on the other hand, is a collection of people appointed by the government (cronies, Hoon-Shelton). They are not very interested in higher education, so their attempts to manage the Technion with Electra's methods do not bring a solution and maybe they are the problem.
When the lecturers go on strike they think of you Roy and their children who are studying and will be studying soon. They think about the next 5-10 years and not just about the next semester

  2. The lecturers' strike is just, but not fair, and to some extent hypocritical.
As a student at the Technion, about to start my final year, I am willing to "sacrifice" a semester if that is really what will save higher education, but not as long as the strike is only on me. If the lecturers were really pressured to reach an agreement with the Treasury, then they would have intensified their sanctions, either by stopping the cooperation with the industry, or by stopping the research altogether. As a student who works at the same time in the industry, I know the importance of cooperation . A break of one week of cooperation would have created much greater pressure. Not to mention stopping research altogether.
Unfortunately, the student body, the lecturers are holding a "light" strike, continue their normal occupations and in fact have no urgency in ending the strike, as the priest put it: "We are running a marathon". Too bad it's only at the expense of the students. This shows to a certain extent the (lack of) commitment of the lecturers to higher education, and only proves how much they see the education of the next generation as a burden.
