"We built a training system in which the graduates train the young people entering the Dokifat 2 project"

This is what Alma Friedan, an 2th grade student who is a member of the development team of Dokifat 3 which was launched into space today, says in an interview with the scientist website * According to her, the students are already working on the development of Dokifat 70 which will be launched as part of the Israel XNUMX project

"We educate each other, we developed a method in which the graduates pass on the knowledge to the young people who enter the project in the ninth grade." This is what Alma Friedan from the 2th grade at Engineers' High School and a member of the Dokifat 2 team since the 19th grade says in an interview with the Hedan website during an event on the occasion of the launch of the Dokifat XNUMX satellite yesterday the XNUMXth with the participation of the students and their parents. "Every year we hold workshops, we educate each other, it's very different from the frontal way they teach in school. You teach people and learn from people all the time. The teams are not divided by classes. Each team has students from grades XNUMX, XNUMX, XNUMX and XNUMX. Constantly passing on the information, this is part of our responsibility as more seniors in this project. And of course we are helped by mentors who are industry professionals, doctors, people with a lot of experience, but the work is entirely the students'.

According to her, there is also innovation in the scientific aspect of the mission: "We are exploring an area that has hardly been explored until now, because it is too high for balloons and airplanes and too low for large satellites, so it turns out that we are doing something special, not just building a satellite, because we have already built one satellite And we want to upgrade."

What did you do when you entered the Duchifat 2 project in the XNUMXth grade?

"When I joined the project, we actually received the first documents and there was excitement because we wanted to know what this thing was, and it required a lot of reading, and I had to decide which team I wanted to be on. Now I am in the PAYLOAD team - the scientific mission of the satellite. I was responsible for the tests of our dedicated payload, I had to understand a lot of technical details. It was very intense and apart from that I had some physical work with the satellite connecting things."

What have you learned in these three years?

"Apart from a lot of knowledge that comes with how to conduct yourself in a project like this, how to talk to people, technical knowledge - the amount of concepts and knowledge about space, about satellites. Besides, I learned a lot about the people here, also how to work with people from the number of times I got to lecture in front of an audience, be interviewed by journalists and even present the project one-on-one to important guests and in addition there is also the business aspect. We worked with other schools across the country from Ofra Yeruham Ahad and Ofakim. In this project, 50 universities from all over the world competed, including an Israeli group which is also the only group of high school students.

What are the chances of the Israel 70 project?

"I think the chances are very high that the financial matter is completely closed and all the schools are being recruited. After we proved with the two satellites that students can build and fly satellites like other industrial engineers, we can spread the knowledge throughout the country so that they too can build. These are satellites like Dokifat 1 which is less complex than Dokifat 2, and we are already starting to develop Dokifat 3 which will be more complex than Dokifat 1 and Dokifat 2".

The launch was very exciting, my heart was strong and I couldn't sleep until the broadcast ended with the announcement that the launch was successful. But we haven't finished it yet, there is still the phase of launching the satellite itself into space. The thought and knowledge that something I built and touched is currently in space is exciting. Amazing."
