A mass grave of dinosaurs has been discovered

Researchers estimate that the burial site discovered at Frick contains the bones of one animal per 100 square meters, so the entire area may contain the bones of more than 100 platosaurs.

A mass grave of dinosaurs has been discovered in Switzerland. An amateur geologist interested in the study of fossils has uncovered one of the largest mass graves of dinosaurs in Europe, after excavating the remains of two plateosaurs.

The bones of the dinosaurs were uncovered during the construction of a house in the village of Frick, near the border with Germany. The hobbyist discovered the bones by accident, said Monix Raumbli of the Freak Dinosaur Museum.

From the excavations it became clear that the area where the plateosaurs were buried is larger than the researchers first thought and it may cover an area of 1.5 square kilometers. In that case, it can be argued that this is the largest site of its kind in Europe, said Martin Sander, a geologist specializing in the study of fossils from the University of Bonn in Germany.

Researchers estimate that the burial site discovered at Frick contains the bones of one animal for every 100 square meters, Sander said, so the entire area may contain the bones of more than 100 plateosaurs. About 210 million years ago, the surface consisted of grasses and rivers flowed through them, according to some scientists However, most of the area of ancient Switzerland was generally a desert and it is possible that the landscape image reminded the Nile region of today. Two more plataosaur sites were discovered in Germany, but it is not known how big they are since the settlement of Halberstadt grew on one of them, while the other, near Trussingen, is covered with forest.
