Think about your car for a moment. Would you like it to have a system that would allow communication with the other cars around it and prevent accidents, or a tracking system for the car when your children are driving it, or an emergency button that would broadcast your location in times of need?

Already today there are systems that provide data on the location of the car and others that prevent accidents by locating objects (cars, motorcycles and pedestrians) in our surroundings, but the vision of the connected car seems to many of us distant and unrealistic.

The American Harman company is the global leader in the "connected car" field, and to find out what part of the great vision is going to be realized soon, Vishnu Sondram, vice president and head of the telematics division at the Harman company, will come to Israel for the first time this week.

Sondram will present at the opening session of DevelopEX2017 - the annual conference of electronic and integrated systems developers, the services that exist today, including infotainment systems, navigation and telematics systems, as well as information security systems that will prevent the leakage of information from the car connected to hostile elements.

At the DevelopEX2017 conference, which has already become a household name as a source for the presentation of revolutionary technologies, additional innovative technologies in the fields of robotics, artificial intelligence and artificial intelligence will be presented this year. Among other things, the Wi-Charge company will present for the first time in Israel an innovative system for electric charging of phones and mobile devices. The system will be demonstrated both in the lecture and in the conference exhibition where an electric train powered by wireless charging only will be presented! The Cortica company will present revolutionary technologies in the field of machine learning (Machine Learning) which have earned the company many worldwide patents, while the Infinity Augmented Reality company will present its innovative solutions for the field of augmented reality that help develop the next generation of digital products.

During the DevelopEX2017 conference, other innovative products and technologies that have recently been developed in the fields of automotive, IOT applications, IOT for industry and more will be presented. The conference, which includes dozens of lecturers and facilitators from all over the world, is now considered the professional summit meeting of all those involved in the design and development of electronic and integrated systems.

This year the conference will be held on October 31, at the AVENUE conference center in Kiryat Airport. All the professional lectures at DevelopEX2017 were selected by a professional committee consisting of about ten senior academics and industry members headed by Prof. Yitzhak Birak, head of the parallel systems laboratory at the Technion and professional chairman of DevelopEX2017.

  1. The connected car dream is technically easier than the smart car. Why? Because the smart car has to guess the intentions of the human driver (a problematic task under conditions of human stress and distress such as in a pre-accident situation) while the connected car is not required to do this.
So why don't we go straight to a connected car? Because humanity cannot immediately switch from human driving mode to connected driving mode. It is impossible to replace the entire global vehicle fleet overnight. There must come an intermediate stage of a smart car.
The situation today is that a connected car is simply useless. And I think it's too early to invest even one cent in it. Only when the smart cars conquer the roads - only then will it make sense to give them a tiny addition: connectivity.
