Men with deep voices have more children

The members of the Hadza tribe still live in a way similar to the first humans

People with deep voices tend to have more children than those who speak in a high tone. That's what scientists say. The findings are based on a group of hunter-gatherers in Tanzania known as the Hadza tribe that can be studied without bias because they do not use any means of birth control.
The BBC website states that men with low voices had an average of two years more than men with high voices. This is consistent with observations that women find male voices more attractive, said the team who published the study in Biology Letters.
"There are many reasons why a lower voice brings success" says Koren Apicella from the Department of Anthropology in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences at Harvard University. Low tones are suggestive of higher levels of testosterone, which can cause women to test masculine traits such as hunting skills and therefore a better food supply," she told the BBC.
"Or it could be that men with deep voices just start starting the family earlier. We still don't know what is behind the phenomenon." saying.
Apicella's group studies the Hazada tribe because "they provide a window into our past." They live their lives in a way similar to that lived by our ancestors and their behavior can illuminate many aspects of evolution that would otherwise be lost due to modern culture.
The Hadza women collect berries and dig for tubers while the men hunt animals and gather honey. The marriage is not arranged, so a man and a woman can choose each other. The Hadza are monogamous but extramarital affairs are common, and the divorce rate is high. For the purpose of the study, the voices of 49 men and 52 women between the ages of 18 and 55 were recorded.
The experiment was quite simple, Apicella says. "I went to nine different camps and I just let them come to my jeep and record them saying hojumbo, which means hello, into a microphone. After that I analyzed the voice and the pitch and compared it with the fertility data of that person - how many children were born and how many of them still survived. The result showed that the deeper the man's voice, the greater the chances that he would father more children, she said. She added that there is no connection between the pitch of the voice and the children's ability to survive. "We found that for women, the pitch of the voice is not related to fertility."
"It is possible that the bimodality of the voice between men and women has developed over thousands of years, mainly due to the choice of mating", explains Apizzela. "There may have been a time when men's voices were closer in pitch than they are today.
The group plans to expand the study to analyze the data collected in an experiment designed to examine whether lower voices among the Hadza are also a marker of the man's performance. "I announced the Hadza Olympics," she said. "The team members participate in a wide variety of activities such as target shooting competition, running, hunting, etc. I intend to examine these results and see if there is a relationship between hunting success, reproductive skills and voice pitch. The study was carried out in collaboration with David Feinberg from McMaster University and Frank Marlowe from Florida State University.

  1. Yehuda:
If you just examine the people around you, you will notice that your claim that older people have a lower voice is not true.
A person's voice changes very little during most of his adult years and when the person really gets old his voice becomes hoarse or higher but in no way lower.
This, in any case, is the reality I encountered.
This reality could be difficult to recognize (because how can one compare my voice today with my voice in my youth in the absence of recordings?) if it were not for another fact that I have also noticed many times and that is the high tendency of the voice to be inherited.
It is very easy to see lineages of men - father, son and grandson - who all have almost the same voice.
It also happens in my family and when my father or one of my sons calls me I sometimes think I called myself 🙂

  2. I think the research is seriously biased.
It is almost certain that men are older, their voices are lower, therefore the large number of children can be due to the fact that older men had more time to have children.
Also, the sexological "celebration" going on in the aforementioned tribe also requires answering questions such as which of your children really has your genes.
It could also be that those owners of the bass and baritone voices do indeed have many children but... they are not theirs and they are actually raising the "naughty" tenor and soprano children.
But, what a stimulating and nice article!!
    good night and sweet dreams!

  3. There may be a connection between low voices and testosterone levels - as a factor for a masculine tone, authority, leadership, etc.
"A lion will roar who does not fear".. and also the urge to create/continue -commemoration/descendants/fatherhood..
But this does not require "amount"... maybe yes, the urge to... (let's hope that those with high testosterone levels
There is also reason to consider..a matter.

  4. My mother's cousin's wife has a low voice. Does that mean she has high testosterone (she's a computer geek)?

  6. You should also check if there is a connection between the research trend and the researcher!
    - It generally looks like an introduction to a lecture in the field of sexology
