Minister of Science, Technology and Space Danny Danon He officially took office today in a festive ceremony held at the offices in Jerusalem. In the absence of the outgoing minister (Yaakov Perry who resigned a few months ago due to the dismissal of his party leader Yair Lapid, and the advance of the elections) he was welcomed by the director general of the ministry Ido Sharri.

Minister Danon said at the ceremony: "We must make sure that the scientific and technological world is not a closed world - not for the ultra-Orthodox, not for the minorities, and not in the periphery." We will work hard to strengthen research and development, with an emphasis on the applied field, we will make sure that all Israeli children are exposed to science, make choices, and hopefully reach great achievements. I am waiting for the day when a Nobel Prize winner will come from the periphery. Emphasis is placed on bringing the general public closer to the fields of science through expanding awareness and accessibility to science activities, especially among the residents of the periphery. A scientific "bridge" will be created that will reach the doorstep of every boy and girl in the State of Israel."

He also added that "the world knows Israeli technology better than we do.

Danon said that the field of space is no stranger to him because as Deputy Minister of Defense he was responsible for security technologies and, among other things, for the space industry.

Director General of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Space Ido Shair He congratulated the incoming minister and said: "We must make sure and act that Israel's future scientific infrastructures, human and physical, will keep pace with global development and even advance it, as well as continue to invest in exposing and making science accessible to all Israeli citizens."

  1. In one word - a disgrace, but what should be expected from the head of a government that appoints an ultra-Orthodox minister of health? When we're lost, we're lost…

  2. N. B.
It seems to me that most of the commenters forgot that this is not the Minister of Education of Lithuania

  3. It's okay, don't judge the Minister of Science and Space for his ignorance. He still doesn't know that it takes more than four years (in a wild exaggeration) to receive a Nobel Prize/educate a new and educated generation in the periphery so he can't get credit for it. His peak achievement in the term will be to land on Earth safely and hopefully also not cause irreparable damage to anyone still with feet on the ground.

  4. Danny, you're a great astronaut, don't believe anything these fanatics say, just explain to me the connection between science and the periphery and why are you waiting for this day, is this part of your personal sorrows or was it said as a public figure? What difference does it make if the Nobel Prize winner is called Jimmy or Mahmoud or Hershala? I have a feeling this term you're going to be the Robin Hood of space.

  5. Please make sure to implement the study of the theory of evolution in the curriculum in both secular and religious schools! Tired of the youth's ignorance on the subject.

The theory of evolution is the basis for all branches of biology, it is not just "theoretical" knowledge - it is important and practical.

  6. It is not clear how he expects science to be exposed and accessible to all Israeli citizens, when most of them do not even have a basic level of education that would allow them to even understand what science is let alone understand it.

Isn't the scientific and technological world a closed world - not for the ultra-Orthodox, not for the minorities, and not in the periphery? really? When many people do not learn at all how science works (whether thanks to the "exemption" from core studies or exemption from budgets for education).
Expecting Nobel laureates from people who do not receive a proper basic education is completely delusional.
