Prof. Dan Blumberg has been appointed Deputy Vice President and Dean of Research and Development at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev

Prof. Dan Blumberg was appointed to the position of Assistant to the Vice President and Dean of Research and Development at Ben-Gurion University, replacing Prof. Aryeh Moran, who is ending his position. As part of his position, Bloomberg will assist in the management and promotion of research at the university and will work alongside the vice president and dean for research and development, Prof. Moti Hershkovich.

Prof. Blumberg joined the university faculty at the end of 1995 as a young researcher after completing a doctorate at the University of Arizona in Phoenix in the field of planetary geology. He leads groundbreaking research in the field of remote sensing, in which observation systems installed on satellites and aircraft are used to study the Earth or other planets.

In addition, Prof. Blumberg served as a co-researcher in the radar laboratory installed on the space shuttle, engaged in research on the ability to use radar systems and hyperspectral systems to study the environment.

As part of his role as chairman of the green council at the university, he led the process of awarding a standard mark from the Ministry of Environmental Protection for a green campus, while creating a real change throughout the campus and deepening awareness of the university's responsibility in environmental thinking. Bloomberg is currently completing his position as head of the Department of Geography and Environmental Development at the same time as he takes up his new position on October 1, 2010.
