In the late seventies, strange shapes began to appear in grain fields in England. The shapes appeared overnight. Someone, or something crushes the grain in defined geometric patterns.

The explanations were many, starting with exotic natural phenomena of wind vortices, ball lightning that travels in the fields, secret experiments of burning shapes from satellites using computer-operated microwave cannons, and of course, of course - messages that alien spaceships leave in the fields.

Soon the shapes became more complex and precise. Straight lines appeared, triangles, squares, fractal patterns and more. Rare natural phenomena were deleted from the list of possible explanations. It was clear that intelligent planning was behind the phenomenon.

hundreds of books were published on the subject over the years, and the mystery surrounding the phenomenon was great.

Some believed that it was a prank by the local residents, but no one had ever seen them in action. The opposing side's claims, as if they were messages from space, remained without any supporting evidence. And the forms kept multiplying, kept getting perfected.

Who are these two clowns?
In 1991 there was a dramatic development. Two English artists (Doug Bower and Dave Chorley) admitted that they were the ones who founded the phenomenon in 1978 as a joke, and created over 200 such grain paintings in the fields of England, equipped with simple accessories that can be found in any warehouse (boards and ropes). Here is their story in brief, including a demonstration of making such a crop circle:

As expected, the "grain circles" (an inclusive name I invented for all those supporters of the idea that the origin of the shapes is not human) were quick to point out that this "hoax" is not the real thing, since the "real" crop circles are much more complex, characterized by other properties, etc. .

The phenomenon is spreading like wildfire

After the media exposure following the confession, the crop circles began to spread and appear in other countries as well. It is true that their number exceeded 10,000. And yet, about 90% of them appear in the south of England, many of them near ancient monuments such as the Stonehenge.

It seems that following the publication, many heirs arose for the two founders of this "movement".

Here is a collection From the words of Matt Ridley, who began his work in the field in 1991:

To my amazement, during the nineties The media continued to claim that it was impossible for all crop circles to be man-made. They quoted "grainers", but never checked things themselves. It is claimed that there are too many of them to be the work of a few "thugs" or that they appeared in areas that were under good surveillance (simply not true).
The most ridiculous claim was that "experts" can distinguish between a "real" and an "artificial" crop circle. Such an expert (Meaden) claimed on camera that the crop circle is real, when in fact its creation was documented by the British Channel 4...

My article was rejected as a "government deception" and it was implied that I am a member of the British intelligence organizations - MI5 - which I was very flattered (but is not true).
The whole affair taught me two important lessons:
1)  Treat all experts with skepticism and examine their personal motives - Many grain growers earn handsomely from writing books and guiding organized tours to grain circle sites (some of them cost more than $2000 per person).

2) Never underestimate the flimsiness of the media. Even theWall Street Journal Published articles that did not take seriously the explanation that the circles are man-made.

"Real" or man-made?
Such publications undoubtedly confused the grain collectors. If we compare the opinions of different "experts" we will find huge gaps not only regarding the explanations for the phenomenon, but regarding their estimates regarding the percentage of shapes that are "real" versus "man-made". For example, a senior farmer named Colin Andrews claimed in 2001 that 80% of British circuits are man-made. Another researcher, who supports the "plasma eddies" theory (a purely speculative phenomenon that has never been observed) wrote that plasma eddies are involved in over 95% of the world's crop circles (Levengood and Talbott 1999).

going up a grade

In the mid-nineties, the group of creators of the grain circles was founded, which led the field for about another decade. They call themselves Circlemakers. The group includes environmental artists, sculptors and others (some name members of the group – Rod Dickinson, John Lundberg, Gavin Turk, Rob Irving). Their philosophy is interesting: they "create myths". They read the same books that the believers read and conduct a kind of non-verbal dialogue with them, through their works. By teaming up with other groups of creators in the field, they made the crop circles part of popular culture, part of the myth of the English countryside.

The sentence they chose to display under their name on Google helps clarify their purpose:
Circlemakers: Home of England's crop circle makers. Making the world a more interesting place"

Lundberg says

In an interview with BBC News: "The myths and folklore that are built around the crop circles are what fascinates me. We have always tried to maintain good relations with the community of crop circle researchers, even though we are at odds with them."

"So many weird conspiracy theories have developed around us. The funniest thing is that we cooperate with the intelligence agencies, and that we are actually agents whose purpose is to spread false information to cover extraterrestrial sources, time travelers, etc. We receive thousands of abusive phone calls and emails. There was damage to property and stones were thrown at one of my team members. But at least this is not America - people don't carry guns.

...After Doug Bower and Dave Chorley's admission in 1991 we wanted to reignite controversy by creating patterns so huge and complex that people would once again question whether people could create such a thing overnight.

"I do not intend to dive into the bog of the drowning and demanding conspiracies. Take a look at this video For example, it can give an idea of the "clues" that people gather after choosing which conspiracy to believe.
Here you can get More information about the famous photographic "proof" of the formation of crop circles in the blink of an eye by mysterious energy balls... This is part of a recommended documentary by National Geographic (link to which you will find at the end of the record).

The members of the Circlemakers and other creators have maintained secrecy and anonymity for years. In the end, this is an integral part of the fun and the perception of their world. They do not specify anywhere exactly who created which crop circle, nor even which crop circles they created and which they did not. Beyond that, let's not forget another aspect of their activity - destroying farmers' crops by stealth at night.

The grainists could argue, and rightly so, that there is no evidence whatsoever that those people actually create the crop circles.

At the same time, in recent years, more and more clear evidence has begun to leak out that these complex works are the result of a few ropes, planks and skilled people dedicated to their strange hobby:

You can skip straight to the 6:00 area and continue from there. Don't miss the finished result!

In 2006 the members of the Circlemakers published the this book, probably the most comprehensive overview of the subject to date, accompanied by detailed instructions on how you can create your own creations in grain fields.

Of course, the business offers were not slow to arrive. Over the past few years, the members of the group have created quite a few advertising works for paying clients: Shredded Wheat, Microsoft, Greenpeace, Big Brother, Nike, UKTV, The Sun, Hello Kitty, Sky one, Mitsubishi, AMD, Thompson Holidays, 02, Richard & Judy, Orange Mobile, with the BBC.

Here are the figures of two famous presenters in an English television program (in the framework of which a confrontation was also held between the creators and their grain):

money money money

From mysterious, anonymous and imagination-challenging works of art The field became an industry thriving Many tourists flood the south of England in the summer season, to witness the new forms that appear overnight. The farmers can also earn thousands of lizt from companies that want to stamp their logos on their fields, or by collecting money from any visitor who wants to enter the field and witness the wonder that appeared there. Rumor has it that one of the farmers near Stonehenge earned about 30,000 lizt this way.

The grocers also earn money from conferences, books, periodicals, calendars, lectures, and guided tours. A good aerial photo of a complex piece that is photographed for an engagement is worth tens of thousands of TL, says the head of a certain photography agency. "Everyone is in this business."

Epilogue

Mystery can be a wonderful spice to create art. But when we try to discover the truth, our task is Dispel the mystery As much as possible by collecting evidence and exercising discretion in choosing possible explanations for the phenomenon. We will prefer reasonable, simple and evidence-backed explanations over complex, improbable and unsubstantiated explanations. (I dealt with this in detail in the record "News, strange claims and spilled minds")

Paradoxically, it seems that all factors are involved are not interested in truth, but in glorifying the aura of mystery Around the phenomenon: The creators of the circles (whether for pranks, mythmaking, or conceptual art), the "Researchers” who believe that the origin of the patterns is extraterrestrial/supernatural, The media which regularly celebrates mystery stories and the public The broad who eagerly consumes them. A multi-participant symbiosis to suppress the truth, not for conspiratorial considerations.

And yet, it frustrates me to be argued again and again, how people ignore the facts just to promote their personal agendas, and the irony of all, they do it "in the name of truth" seemingly!
here Excerpt from the movie - Thrive (about five minutes from the marked point), which was released only a few months ago, years after all the information you read here was made public.

Crop circles are not a particularly interesting phenomenon from a scientific point of view. After all, there is no good reason to believe that these are more than a few crazy people who go out into the fields at night to crush plants with planks.
Aesthetically the results are spectacular.
But the really fascinating aspect of this phenomenon, to me, is the socio-anthropological aspect: it A multi-participant social symbiosis to create and maintain illusions.
Here is what the art critic says John Roberts on the works of Dickinson, one of the leaders of the group ofCirclemakers: "What interests Dickinson is not how easy it is to deceive people, but how deeply irrationality is embedded in modern culture and how normative such processes are in a culture that claims to be founded on reason and education.

  1. It has been said that more than a hundred years ago they found signs in the USA, it could be that they are extraterrestrials who do not make contact with
    Humanity on Earth

  2. What's wrong with thinking that these are extraterrestrials? Why go so far to prove that these are not extraterrestrials? Is it to convince the public that these are indeed only human beings who know how to create and make art? Phil also knows how to paint with a brush and is an extraterrestrial. By the way, the crop circles are really beautiful. Thanks to the creators wherever they are..

  3. monument,
I'm talking about only fixed geometric shapes that are formed spontaneously and you get carried away by the human body which is really not like the pyramids and the like that are obviously built by man.
As long as people weren't caught red-handed doing the embeddings, I would leave an opening for some kind of natural phenomena or something currently incomprehensible.
By the way, I could make all these shapes with the help of the helicopter with four propellers, in the center of which is a thermal device programmed in the X and Y axes for these shapes.

  4. Robbie, you have to be careful of irrelevant analogies.
Man is also a wonderful structure created without an intelligent being. But the mechanism is completely different, and is understood on a principle level..
The same goes for the crystals.

Maybe Stonehenge was also created naturally? And the pyramids in Egypt? what are you saying? And if you think not, why not?

  5. monument,
If you look at ice crystals under magnification or at all at the spontaneous crystallization of solids in nature under magnification then you will see wonderful structures that are created without intelligent beings so that there is a situation for the spontaneous creation of forms in grain circles but you should not rule out other possibilities that will become clear in the future...

  6. Iran, do you mean the program at National that I added a link to at the end of the article?

Could you explain the sentence: "I do know one thing, but that some of these crop circles were created for reasons that have no explanation" - which part exactly was created for reasons that have no explanation? Can you refer to certain circles?
Who decided they don't have an explanation, you?

"You asked yourself with all these plasma vortices why does it always happen in the fields???? Why don't you see such a pattern on empty land? A remote road ..what is the whole earth full of grain???" - I'm not sure I understand the question. First of all, as far as I know, there is no evidence for the existence of the phenomenon of "plasma vortices" at all. This is wild theoretical speculation. And certainly and surely, I don't see how a natural phenomenon can create such complex patterns "by chance".
Secondly, the reason you don't see such shapes on empty land or a remote road is that there is nothing there to crush with planks and ropes. It is not clear? This is really a spot on question, and the answer definitely supports the trivial explanation.

  7. Gilad, unfortunately no... I do remember that it was a program that was done on the National Geographic channel.

Regarding aliens or not..I'm totally petty, unlike a lot of other people, I prefer that aliens don't visit us..Usually a superior being visits an inferior creature something bad happens to create inferiors 🙂 ...

I do know one thing, but that some of these crop circles were created for reasons of their own, there is no explanation.

Have you asked yourself with all these plasma swirls why does this always happen in the fields???? Why don't you see such a pattern on empty land? A remote road ..what is the whole earth full of grain???…

  8. Dear Ruby
    I really agree with you!
The Spaniards with the mask maker and discovery and learning and of course an alternative home, came to America and saw what happened to the natives. Almost destroyed!
Likewise with the desire to search and learn or whatever you call it, in Australia. Almost total extermination of the natives
And even when there were no bad intentions it just happened, for example the extermination of a large part of the Eskimo or Inuit population.
In short, why should they come biologically it's just trouble.
    good evening
And hope that the natives in Syria will not go berserk

  9. point –

    1. The study of UFOs does not rely on photographs and/or videos, except in exceptional cases (such as NASA videos or information distributed by government officials and the chance of deliberate forgery is extremely low). Such cases are examined by experts, in order to rule out the possibility of wrong photography or forgery. (Fakes, by the way, make up only about 1% of all photographs. Most of them are identification errors). The study of UFOs belongs to forensic science and thus it must be examined. Most of the research relies on documents, testimonies and physical findings left in private hands.

    2. Physical findings, such as are in private hands, are sent to laboratories. This was the case with the silicon-like material found in Israel, or the remains found in Ehihud. In the above case, we are talking about research done at the Institute of Forensic Medicine (following a government commission of inquiry that was established), the Technion, Ben-Gurion University and other laboratories.
In the case of official studies (such as the Blue Book or the Condon Committee, these were tested in research institutions such as the University of Colorado, BMI, Los Alamos Laboratories and others)

  10. Yehuda, the instinct of search and discovery is also present in us. For the same reason that Columbus discovered America and now aspire to land on Mars, so intelligent beings want to look for other worlds for the purpose of an alternative home or anthropological research...

  11. I have no doubt that aliens exist somewhere in the universe, and we are not the only intelligent beings!
The question is if they discovered us and if they found the time, will and resources to visit those "primitives" at the edge of the galaxy, who deal with crop circles, the possibility of another moon, and my God is bigger than yours.
I think they have no particular reason to come to us except maybe to….. destroy us.
Have a good and successful day
    Sabdarmish Yehuda

  12. We have to come to terms with the fact that we still don't understand everything and there are incomprehensible phenomena on Earth or in the universe.
Our technological history is very short and we are still ahead of many discoveries in the future that will explain to us incomprehensible phenomena in the present.

  13. Hi Hanan,
I'm talking about any object that claims to be extraterrestrial/alien spaceship.

How do you know that it is something like this and not just some mundane pilot tool or some Photoshop.

  14. It is unbelievable how even in the 21st century most of humanity believes (at least as a possibility) in the existence of UFOs in the sense of super beings that watch over us from above and occasionally send some mysterious signal, just to intrigue the inferior humans. And this delusional belief is also developing as technology develops. Belief in the superior technological powers that these gods (you can call it that) supposedly have is no longer much different than belief in witchcraft or some mysterious lake monster. Every time I meet a person who brings up this matter as a possibility to explain one or another phenomenon, I am amazed all over again.

  15. To the point - what "object" exactly are you talking about? And if it is a secret material that has been developed, are we even supposed to know about it????

To Yehuda - I have definitely come across this year already in presentations devoted to this foolish nonsense. It's a war on wind farms. I don't think anything will help. Better to ignore.

  16. Nothing will help!, people will continue to talk about crop circles being creations of aliens. And it doesn't matter how many proofs you bring on this subject.
    How am I so sure?
Well, every year, when Mars is just beginning to approach the Earth, an email starts circulating on the web warning that soon Mars will approach the Earth and it will look as huge as the Moon!, nothing less and nothing more!
At first, we at the Astronomical Society tried to cancel the rumor and explain that it was impossible, but nothing helped.
And every year, the rumor mongers outdo themselves!
For example, notice how much work was invested this year in spreading this false message and in the efforts of persuasion. Tell the truth, doesn't the message look authentic, and convincing?

    For your enjoyment!
    good evening
    Sabdarmish Yehuda

  17. There is a documented phenomenon in various places of balls of light that wander above the ground and go through walls.
The phenomenon is explained by scientists as energy that is released from friction between quartz plates in the area.
I would not rule out a connection between the two phenomena.

  18. If aliens do exist and they have such a level of technology.
Is that all they can do?
Isn't it easier to announce over the loudspeaker that they are there?
    call on the phone?
    Send a letter?
Throw some object from the spaceship?
    Get on TV?
make a boom on my voice?

  19. Hanan, how do you know that something originates from outside the earth?

What prevents that object from being produced in a secret laboratory that only its creators know about.

  20. Eran, I came across these stories, but could you point me to an organized study that tested this?

I did come across studies that claim that the shape of the bend was somewhat different in the "real" circles (which were defined as those in which the shape of the bend was different...), but other researchers pointed out the serious methodological flaws in these studies.

    The studies:
    http://www.bltresearch.com/published.php

    The review articles:
    http://www.scientificexploration.org/journal/jse_19_2_grassi.pdf
    http://www.csicop.org/sb/show/levengoods_crop-circle_plant_research

  21. Yes, it is true that the vast majority of these circles can really be created using the equipment described, but what does not appear here is that there were circles in which radioactive radiation was detected, and that the plants did not grow again when the next season came...

Now there is no problem, people spoil creativity..obviously..but radioactive material just like that arrived in the field by clowns.? It's not exactly something you can buy in a store..and what's the deal with the fact that for a long time nothing has regrown.

I still leave this part as not exactly known... except for this... nothing happens in England... why would UFOs or spirits visit her 🙂

  22. Thank you Hanan,

I would like to add a link to this comment of yours in my blog post, is that acceptable?
Is "Chairman of the UFO Research Association" the right title?

  23. Most crop circles are man-made. It is possible that a very small minority (perhaps less than 1%) are the product of rare natural phenomena, which have been brought up in several studies - plasma vortices, static electricity, etc. There is no proof of this.

Today it is indeed an industry, as there are those who finance groups that specialize in making rings of this kind that bring crowds of visitors.

It should be noted that the topic of imprinting did not start in the 16s, but was already mentioned in literature from the XNUMXth century, where it was called "Satan's Circles".

Also, one must distinguish between the artistic rings in the fields, and what is known as the landing rings of unidentified objects.

    Hanan Sabat
    http://WWW.EURA.ORG.IL

  24. Point: Since it is apparently unknown who created most of the circles, it can be said that they were created by UFOs. What's more, if you want to say that it's about UFOs, you have to assume that they also fly, and then it's about something different.

  25. As you have seen, they make an even better living from visitors who come to witness the wonder, and from companies that advertise through it.

  26. Hey, isn't it a pity about the field? Someone makes a living from this grain...

  27. Of course, the fact that the circles were created by such and such people does not contradict the fact that they were actually directed by aliens to make them.
The movie "Men in Black" showed that aliens are among us, alternatively we know quite a few people wearing black who also do quite a few things because "they are told".

  28. What's the deal with the thickets?
There are many types of hallucinations, why exactly the obscene ones?

  29. Using telepathy and technological prowess I was able to connect to Earth's internet from my planet!! Note that this article is one big lie because I was present at the creation of some of the circuits by my spaceship. The government is lying and the writer is a secret agent! The truth will be revealed! ! You're kidding, I worked on you! or not! I might be a secret agent too hahaha
