While the US presidential candidate Mitt Romney wants to eliminate the public television service in the US, known as the producer of the series "Sesame Street", one of the heroes of the series made a pilgrimage to a distant place - the planet closest to the sun, the planet Mercury.

This is a Cookie Monster, whose shape resembles a crater on the planet Mercury. This image was taken by the Mercury Messenger spacecraft orbiting the planet Hema.

The people of the Goddard Space Flight Center, who are responsible for the Messenger mission, say that it is a combination of young craters on top of old craters. In this case the two small shadowy craters that look like bulging eyes near the rim of an older crater are reminiscent of the little blue cookie-eating monster from Sesame Street.
While most of us can enjoy the image due to the Peridiol effect that allows us to see a familiar face (and fantasize about cookies and we all remember the alleged face in the Sidonia crater on Mars), what the scientists see here are craters, in particular in this image, the law of superposition allowed the scientists to determine which terrain routes are earlier and which are more recent , something that will lead to a better understanding of the geological history of different areas on the surface of the planet Hema.

  1. There are so many parameters for winning a Nobel, I'm not sure the average cognitive ability of a country is one of them.
With all due respect for the research.
