Officials from China's manned space program presented China's roadmap for manned space exploration at the International Astronautical Congress in Daejeon.

In the years 2011 - 2013, China plans to launch a technological demonstrator of a living unit for a space station, and to carry out several docking missions between this component and Shenzhou spacecraft - manned and unmanned. After completing the technological proof phase, China intends to start building a larger space station, which will consist of several units, similar to the structure of the Russian Mir space station. Completion of this station is expected in 2020, and a crew of three taikonauts will be able to stay there for periods of several months. It is a small space station, which will weigh less than 100 tons, and it will have one central module, which will weigh 20 tons, and which will have the living facilities of the permanent crew. It will also include docking options for Shenzhou cargo spacecraft, manned Shenzhou spacecraft and two laboratory modules. The scale will be no bigger than that of the Russian Mir space station.

China's well-known plans for a manned landing on the moon were also presented, but no details were given regarding the planned date for manned lunar operations. In 2010, San will host an international space conference dedicated to scientific research of the moon.

  1. Until there is a world federation without friction and thickening for personal prestige, there is no chance for significant progress. There is no country today that is capable of doing even the smallest thing alone without the help of many other countries.

  2. What are you talking about? China is not a partner in the International Space Station - and not because it was not interested in it, so the comment about wasting resources is out of place.

  3. is not that a loss? By the time the construction of the International Space Station is completed, will it be abandoned and something else planned in its place? What a waste of resources.
