Are your findings science or evidence based? You will not receive a budget from the US government

This is according to a report by the Washington Post, which describes the instruction of a senior official in the US Budget Division to the Agency for Disease Prevention (CDC), which returned the budget proposal to them due to the use of prohibited words. In addition to the phrases "science-based" and "evidence-based", it is forbidden to use the words vulnerable, eligible, diverse, transgender and fetus

It turns out that it is not only global warming that is not allowed to be researched in the USA, it is also not allowed to engage in evidence-based or science-based research at all. This is according to a briefing meeting held by the representatives of the administration with the Center for Disease Prevention (CDC) in preparation for the preparation of the agency's budget for 2018.

These two phrases Science-Based and "evidence-based" are part of a group of phrases that the people of this agency, which deals with medical matters, are prohibited from mentioning in the agency's budget proposal that will be submitted to the Trump administration.

Likewise, the following words must not be said to them: vulnerability, entitlement, diversity, and fetus. This is what a website said  The Washington Post.

In an unprecedented move, CDC officials were instructed not to use these words and phrases and in particular they were forbidden to rely on scientific data. One CDC employee who spoke on the condition of anonymity said: "The CDC must submit its research proposals in light of the science in coordination with the ideas and wishes of groups."

Alison Kelly of the government's Financial Services Agency (the equivalent of our Accountant General) sent the agency's staff back their budget proposal for revision and asked them in writing to ban the use of the words vulnerable, entitled and diverse. And the rest of the words and phrases she handed down orally.

"I don't know what the reason was for doing this other than trying to hurt specific people," says Dr. Loren Schechter, director of the Center for Gender Analysis at Weiss Hospital in Chicago to the website The Huffington Post.

"I am amazed and concerned about the attempt to undo some of the hard-earned gains in social equality." said. "In principle, not considering reality, science, solutions will not affect these people, nor their motivation to improve the quality of their lives." Schechter concluded. "The CDC has treated LGBT people and relied on science since its inception."

In doing so, the CDC joins other government bodies, including Health and Human Services - which also supervises the CDC, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development - all of whom have changed the way they collect government information about American LGBT people. In March, HHS officials deleted questions about sexual orientation and gender from two surveys of seniors. The Ministry of Child and Family Affairs for Doga will put together a web page that deals with federal services for LGBT people and their families, including their possibility to adopt and receive help in case they were victims of human trafficking."

The CDC includes several offices responsible for research that uses these words, the National Center for HIV/AIDS, Viral Hepatitis, STD, and Tuberculosis, which is researching ways to prevent transgender people from contracting AIDS, as well as working with babies born with birth defects due to the Zika virus, and conducting research on fetal development.

The director of the CDC, Dr. Brenda Fitzgerald, responded after the media uproar that "there are no forbidden words" and emphasized that the agency is committed to data-based science. "The CDC has a long history of making public health and budget decisions based on the best science and data for the benefit of all people and we will continue to do so," she said. However, analysts who participated in the meeting claim that they even received alternative words to use instead of these words. On the other hand, a follow-up reporter in the New York Times claimed that this was not a charge against the CDC but rather a means to help secure Republican support for the 2019 budget by omitting words and phrases.

  1. …..and all this frightening eclipse is close to us. The Israeli right-wing really flies on Trump, Netanyahu called him my brother in mind and emotion, the Minister of Culture, in fact the culture problem, of the State of Israel proudly waves the flag of ignorance and ignorance!
And the government of the Smotrichs also takes us back to the dark days of history.

  2. The teaching is political and not scientific. The previous parable introduced political opinions into scientific research. The current administration is taking politics out of science. Eligibility and diversity vulnerabilities describe a political rather than a scientific situation. In my opinion these words describe a distortion of reality, in your opinion this is reality.

  3. It's amazing to see how the drivers behave irresponsibly. The US has decided that there is no warming problem.
This only brings the replacement of hegemony by China closer. We also see tycoon companies that will be stronger than countries in the future.

The hysteria is justified. People I work with are involved in the field and indeed this is the teaching.

So it's true, these are not "bans", but only "recommendations". I remember very well what he called me when I didn't follow my boss's "recommendations"...

The USA is in a terrible decline and it's a shame that they try to obscure it.

  5. This is how empires fall.
Who even remembers the Muslim Golden Age - which dominated science and a large part of the world many hundreds of years ago. Apparently the American Empire is also kicking the bucket and making way for a giant from the East...

  7. If you liked the Dark Ages you will love the Trump era!!!

Asaf is half right - what rules the USA is the greed of a small group, and the ignorance of a huge group (so Asaf is actually much more than "half right").

It is also possible to rephrase what Asaf said - whoever controls the USA is ignorant...

It is worrying how many ignorant people there are in Israel who think that Trump is good for Israel. It was funny but it wasn't sad….

  8. vindicated. Apparently this comes to prevent all kinds of "scientists" from stirring the budget cake. In my opinion, most of the scientists who have a connection to the government are not scientists, and they should really be banned from using science to support their arguments.
